MSU gets local basketball players on signing day

Mankato East senior Carson Schweim signed his national letter of intent Wednesday to join the Minnesota State men's basketball program.
Schweim is one of the three signings announced by coach Matt Margenthaler.
Schweim, a 6-foot-7 wing, led East in scoring at 16.4 points per game, shooting 38% from 3-point range and 74.5% on free throws. He also averaged 6.0 rebounds and helped the Cougars reach the state tournament.
"Carson is a young man that can really stretch the court with his outside shooting ability," Margenthaler said in a press release. "He has great size and athletic ability that will benefit him early on."
The other signings are point guard Holden Arnaman from West Branch, Iowa, and wing Colton Benson of New Ulm.
Benson averaged 28.6 points, 8.1 rebounds and 2.6 assists per game, while shooting 47% from the field.
"Colton is a natural scorer inside and out," Margenthaler said. "He has that ability to play multiple positions and his size and strength will help him right away."
Women's basketball
St. Peter's Rhyan Holmgren headlines a list of five players who signed letters of intent to play for the Mavericks.
Holmgren, a 5-9 guard, is a four-time letterwinner that averaged 24.2 points, 7.1 rebounds, 3 assists, and 3.1 steals. She holds team records for points in a game (43), points in a season (684) and career points (1,658).
"Rhyan is a phenomenal playmaker and a true scorer that will be a great fit in our up-tempo style," Minnesota State coach Emilee Thiesse said in a press release. "Her high basketball IQ. along with her multi-dimensional skillset, allow her to score from all areas of the court. Her strength and toughness in the guard spot will make her a difficult matchup in our system."
Other signings Wednesday were forward Mallory Czinano of Watertown Mayer; point guard Elisabeth Gadient of Goodhue; forward Lucy Leininger of Germantown, Wisconsin; and guard Hannah Leverson of Sisseton, South Dakota.
Women's hockey
Minnesota State women's hockey head coach John Harrington has announced the signing of three student-athletes to national letters of intent.
Forward Audrey Garton of Holy Angels), defenseman Lauren Goldsworthy of Minnetonka and forward Bella Shipley of Maple Grove signed with the Mavericks.
Mankato West
Wilson Magers, a pitcher and shortstop, signed his letter of intent to attend Creighton and play baseball. Teammate Mason DuRose signed with St. John's, and Kaylor Chamberlain signed with Minnesota Crookston.
Maddie Bode (softball) and Chloe Aanenson (cross country) signed with Sioux Falls, and Allison Banse will attend St. Benedict's to compete in volleyball and track and field.
Mankato East
Macy Birkholz has signed with Wayne State to compete in the women's basketball program.
Nicholas Werk signed with South Dakota State to play baseball, and Isaiah Anderson will attend Augustana to compete in cross country and track and field.
St. Peter
Kaeden Guida signed with the Minnesota State baseball program, while Kaiden Brovold signed with the Augustana men's golf program.
Alexia Timmerman signed with Baker University for women's wrestling. Baker is located at Baldwin City, Kansas.
