Embiid tops Wilt for Sixers' franchise record

There was no stopping Embiid, who broke Wilt Chamberlain's franchise record of 68 points which he set against the Chicago Bulls on Dec. 16, 1967.

Embiid had 34 points, 10 rebounds, 2 assists on 20 shots with no turnovers at half time. He added another 25 points in the third quarter to tie his career high of 59.

Embiid-Wembanyama matchup lives up to the hype

Embiid might have had this game circled on the calendar.

With the No. 1 overall pick from the 2023 draft in Philly for the first time, Embiid saved his best game for the season so far.

Not only did Embiid score 70 points, but he also grabbed 18 rebound (9 offensive) and 5 assists as well as a steal and a block with only one turnover. He shot 24-41 from the floor and an incredible 21-23 from the line.

Wembanyama was no slouch, scoring 33 points on 11-19 shooting and 7 rebounds.

How incredible was Embiid's 70-point effort?

Let's just say Embiid's performance was historic.

Embiid became the first player in NBA history to score 70 points while recording at least 15 rebounds and 5 assists in a single game, according to statmuse.com. The only other players to score at least 70 points with 15 rebounds are Elgin Baylor and Chamberlain.

The center also joined exclusive company, becoming only the second player besides Michael Jordan to total at least 60 points, 15 rebounds and 5 assists in a game over the last 40 seasons.

In 37 minutes, it was the shortest time to a 70-point game in NBA history, according to stathead.

He also joined Wilt and David Robinson as the only other centers to score 65 or more points in a single game in NBA history.

When he's in the lineup, there's few games Embiid isn't lighting up the stat sheet.

Since Dec. 1, Embiid is averaging 40.3 points, 11.9 rebounds, 5.1 assists while shooting 57% from the field, 42% from beyond the arc and 90% from the free throw line.

Most point scored in an NBA game

While Embiid broke one Wilt record Monday, he fell short of the top single-game feet.

The NBA single-game scoring record is still held by Chamberlain, a 100-point effort in a 169-147 Philadelphia Warriors win over the New York Knicks in Hershey, Pennsylvania, on March 2, 1962.

Chamberlain scored at least 70 points in a game on five occasions.
