Moody girls basketball to resume play after on-court fight in McAllen

The Moody girls basketball team will resume play on Tuesday when the Trojans host IWA at 6:15 p.m. Tuesday.

Moody has not played a game since Nov. 17 after a fight occurred between Moody and Laredo Nixon players during the Border Bash Basketball Tournament in McAllen.

Moody withdrew from the tournament following the incident and returned to Corpus Christi. The Trojans went on to cancel their next two games against Alice and Gregory-Portland.

The Laredo Morning Times reported the Laredo Nixon player involved in the brawl is planning to press charges after video online shows her being attacked by Moody players. There was no indication of what led to the altercation.

Multiple Moody players were suspended after the incident, but Moody High School athletic coordinator Mike Cantu and Corpus Christi ISD athletic director Brenda Marshall did not specify on how many players were involved.

Marshall said Corpus Christi ISD officials are currently waiting to review the police report that was submitted on the incident to gain more information.

KIII television station reported late last week the University Interscholastic League will decide disciplinary action against Moody High School and that there is no timeline for the decision.

The Trojans are currently 6-5 ahead of Tuesday's game against the Angels.
