Monroe-Woodbury boys, girls from Cornwall, Rondout Valley repeat as Section 9 champs
The Monroe-Woodbury boys squad, as well as the Cornwall and Rondout Valley girls repeated as team champions at the Section 9 indoor track and field championships over the weekend at West Point. Monroe beat Middletown by 32 points in Class A boys and Port Jervis beat Tri-Valley by 15 points in Class B. Cornwall topped Monroe-Woodbury by 31 points and Rondout nipped Tri-Valley by four.
Class B competed on Friday and Class A on Saturday.

The only triple winners came out of Class B. Tri-Valley freshman Anna Furman swept the 1,000, 1,500 and 3,000 meters (repeating as champ in the latter). Port Jervis senior Constentino Proscia won the high jump, long jump (repeating in both) and the 55-meter dash.
Pine Bush senior Madison Williams won the Class A long jump and triple jump, repeating her double wins from 2023.
Double wins in Class A girls included Minisink Valley sophomore Kessler Hirsch repeating in the 55 dash and taking the 300; Pine Bush senior Shaylen Goslar won the 1,000 and 1,500; and, Kingston junior Daniella Johnson swept the shot put (with a repeat) and weight throw.
For Class A boys, Middletown junior Myles Berry swept the shot put and weight throw.
Repeat winners included Monroe-Woodbury junior Ronaldo Rodriguez Perez (boys 600); Cornwall senior Frances Teague (girls 600); Kingston junior Joe McDonald Jr. in high jump; Beacon senior Damani DeLoatch in triple jump; and, the Middletown boys 800 relay.
In Class B girls, O’Neill senior Samantha Starling won the long and triple jumps and New Paltz was the only team to earn two relay wins (800 and 3,200). Senior Alexandria North of Our Lady of Lourdes ran a Section 9 season best of 40.94 in the 300.
Repeat winners included Rondout Valley senior Jacqueline Kennedy in the 55 champ; Marlboro senior throwers Juliana Juras (shot put) and Victoria Maher (weight, sectional season best of 46 feet); and, Red Hook sophomore Taisiia Mokii in the race walk.
In Class B boys, Tri-Valley junior Van Furman repeated in the 3,200.
The Section 9 state qualifier will be held at 4 p.m. on February 17 at the New York Armory. The state meet is March 2 at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex on Staten Island.
