Monday's high school roundup: Windham pitcher strikes out 19 in 8-2 softball win

May 20—Brooke Gerry struck out 19 as Windham topped Marshwood/Berwick 8-2 in a softball game Monday at South Berwick.

Gerry threw a one-hitter, allowing a pair on unearned first-innings runs for the Eagles (14-0) in beating the Hawks (7-7).

Gerry also went 4 for 5, scoring twice and driving in three for Windham, including a pair of runs to pace a five-run top of the second.

Jaydn Kimball and Oakley McLeod added two hits apiece for the Eagles.

SOUTH PORTLAND 7, KENNEBUNK 2: The Red Riots (10-4) took advantage of three errors to score seven unearned runs as they downed the Rams (8-7) at Kennebunk.

Ella Nickerson had three hits to lead South Portland, and Chloe Whitten added a pair of singles.

Julia Pike took the loss for Kennebunk, going the first four innings, allowing no earned runs on five hits, striking out 10.

LEAVITT 12, LINCOLN ACADEMY 0: Maddy Dutil had four hits as the Hornets (11-2) topped the Eagles (5-9) in five innings in Newcastle.

All of Dutil's hits were singles, Hailey Turcotte added two singles and Emily Poland hit a double for Leavitt, which scored seven runs in the second. Abby Albert, Hailey Cyr and Turcotte combined to pitch a two-hitter.

Olivia Ball pitched three innings for Lincoln Academy and Natalie Kaler pitched two.

PORTLAND 9, BONNY EAGLE 1: Kaitlin Vigue had two RBI on two hits, including a triple, as the Bulldogs (10-4) raced past the Scots (6-8) in Standish.

Hadleigh McPartlan had a pair of hits for Portland. Sadie Armstrong had a double and also pitched a four-hit complete game.

ST. DOMINIC 11, GRAY-NEW GLOUCESTER 10: Emily Andrews' two-run single capped a three-run seventh inning as the Saints (9-4) edged the Patriots (0-13) at Auburn.

St. Dom's entered the bottom of the seventh trailing by two runs, 10-8. The Saints scored one run, then Emily Andrews brought in Maddie Andrews and Piper Croteau for the tying and go-ahead runs.

Emily Andrews, Maddie Andrews, Croteau, Sophia Franciose and Lily Fortin each had two hits for St. Dom's. One of Fortin's two hits was a double, Croteau had two RBI and Maddie Andrews scored four runs.

Maisie Lerette hit a homer, drove in three runs and scored three for Gray-New Gloucester. Piper Aube doubled, singled, scored twice and drove in a pair of runs.

BASEBALL

ST. DOMINIC 10, GRAY-NEW GLOUCESTER 0: Ashton Hammond pitched a one-hitter and Timothee Ouellette had three hits and drove in two runs in the Saints' six-inning win over the Patriots in Auburn.

Ouellette singled, doubled and tripled. Half of St. Dom's 12 hits went for extra bases. Ridge Dionne also tripled and drove in two runs. Tom Casserly, Ryan Bussiere and Curtis Wheeler hit doubles. Wheeler and Ben Dumais finished with two hits apiece for the Saints (12-0).

Hammond struck out six and walked three in six innings.

Nick Geer had Gray-New Gloucester's only hit. He also pitched for the Patriots (2-11) and struck out four.

TRAIP ACADEMY 8, BUCKFIELD 1: Alec Webster went the distance for the Rangers (7-6) in a win over the Bucks (3-7) at Kittery. Webster allowed one run on four hits, fanning four.

Webster added a pair of singles and drove in a run for Traip, Sean Webster added a pair of singles, and Colby Christiansen scored three times and drove in a pair.

CAPE ELIZABETH 3, FRYEBURG ACADEMY 1: Max Hayward had two hits and two RBI, and also picked up his first varsity win, leading the Capers (9-4) over the Raiders (6-8) in Cape Elizabeth.

Justin Strunk had an RBI double for Cape.

Connor Keaten drove in Fryeburg Academy's run.

GREELY 5, WELLS 0: Gehrig Donnelly threw a four-hit shutout, fanning seven with one walk, to lead the Rangers (11-2) over the Warriors (7-6) at Wells.

Wes Piper had a two-run home run, Ryder Simpson had a triple and a single, and Marky Axelsen and Wyatt Soucie added two hits apiece for Wells.

EDWARD LITTLE 6, CONY 5: The Red Eddies scored two in the top of the seventh to earn their fourth win in five games by beating the Rams in Augusta.

Breccan Albert scored the winning run for Edward Little (6-7). He scored twice, as did Eli St. Laurent and TJ Kramarz. Elliott Hill, who had a game-high two hits, St. Laurent and Albert each hit doubles.

Owen Scott pitched a complete game for the win. He struck out eight and allowed four hits.

Parker Morin tripled for Cony (8-4).

LEAVITT 9, LINCOLN ACADEMY 0: Noah Carpenter pitched a three-hit shutout, and the Hornets handled the Eagles in Newcastle.

Carpenter struck out 10 over seven innings. Jace Negley drove in a pair of runs for Leavitt (11-2), and catcher Luke Gladu had two hits.

Owen Cotta had a double for Lincoln (7-7).

YARMOUTH 4, POLAND 1: Starter David Swift threw six scoreless innings, allowing a pair of singles and striking out five, to lead the Clippers (10-2) past the Knights (7-7) at Poland.

Jack Janczuk had a pair of hits for Yarmouth, including an RBI single in the fifth, and Sam Bradford added a pair of hits.

BOYS' LACROSSE

WELLS 12, TRAIP ACADEMY 3: Nathan Bolduc led the Warriors (9-1) with four goals and Kevin Bolduc had a goal and three assists as Wells defeated the visiting Rangers (1-11).

Dylan Davis added three goals for Wells, which also received one goal apiece from Calvin Chase and Bryer Perry.

Asa Lane scored twice for Traip and Terrence Swiger had one goal.

GIRLS' LACROSSE

GREELY 16, GRAY-NEW GLOUCESTER/POLAND 1: Eva Williams and Asja Kelman had four goals apiece, and Williams added three assists as the Rangers (8-3) cruised past the 26ers (2-10) at Cumberland.

Jane Flynn and Kylie Lord had two goals apiece for Greely, and Kacie Lord, Maggie Jacobson, Audrey Ingersoll and Avery Bush also scored.

Emma MacMahon scored for Gray-New Gloucester/Poland.
