MONDAY PREP ROUNDUP: St. Anthony boys golf wins St. Anthony Match Play; Effingham girls golf finish second at Apollo Conference Tournament

Sep. 19—EFFINGHAM — The St. Anthony Bulldogs took first at the St. Anthony Match Play at Effingham Country Club on Monday.

St. Anthony finished with 6 1/2 points. Metropolis (Massac County) was second with 5 1/2, Anna-Jonesboro was third with 4 1/2, Bloomington (Central Catholic) was tied for fourth with St. Anthony's junior varsity team with four. Olney (Richland County) and Paris were tied for sixth with three and Tetutopolis was eighth with 1 1/2.

Joey Trupiano went 2-0, beating Teutopolis' Coen Pennington (3-and-2) and Richland County's Reese Glover (2-up).

Lane Ludwig and Charlie Wegman went 1-0-1, defeating Central Catholic's Luke Brady and Patrick Costigan (1-up) and tying with Paris' Drake Bartos and Marcus Mitchell.

Dakota Flaig and Ryan Schmidt went 1-0-1, tying with Massac County's John Stephenson and Zach Maurer and defeated Central Catholic's Vaughan Oakley and Ian VanEaton (5-and-4).

Lastly, Preston Phillips went 1-0-1, tying with Anna-Jonesboro's Aidan McFadden and defeating teammate Jack Swingler (1-up).

For the St. Anthony junior varsity team, Swingler finished 0-2, losing to Central Catholic's Connor Campbell (1-up) and Phillips.

Alec Hakman went 2-0, beating Paris' Sean Dunn (4-and-3) and Landon Brown (1-up).

Maddux Clark and Luke Anderson went 1-1, losing to Massac County's Gabe Rottmann and Eli Brown (2-and-1) and beating Teutopolis' Isaac Weber and Brody Thoele (3-and-2).

Drake Brown and Andrew Meyer went 1-1, losing to Richland County's Alex Harness and Aaron Klingler (2-up) and defeating Paris' Lincoln Livesay and St. Anthony's Ethan Karolewicz, who was playing for Paris, due to the number of teams involved (2-up). Karolewicz and Livesay defeated Nick Hannan and Drake Hartline in their first match (2-and-1).

Lastly, for Teutopolis, Ethan Thoele lost to Richland County's Ayden Nealis (3-and-2) and tied with Paris' Parker Underwood.

Pennington went 1-1, losing to Trupiano and defeating Massac County's Luke Maurer (3-and-1).

Weber and Brody Thoele lost to Taj Hodges and Dylan Harvel (1-up) and then lost to Clark and Anderson and Hayden Jansen and Hayden Tebbe lost to Oakley and VanEaton (4-and-3) and Stephenson and Zach Maurer (3-and-2).

Apollo Conference Tournament

The Effingham Flaming Hearts finished fifth at the Apollo Conference Tournament on Monday.

Effingham shot a team score of 336.

Max Seachrist led the Flaming Hearts with a round of 80. Jude Traub shot an 82. Rayden Schneider shot an 84. Cannon Bockhorn shot a 90. Leo Wyckoff shot a 91 and Evan Pryor shot a 94.

Louisville (North Clay) at Fairfield Public Golf Course

The North Clay Cardinals competed at Fairfield Public Golf Course on Monday.

Riley Poe shot a final round of 39. Jacob Arnold shot a 48. Kennedy Jones shot a 49 and Alaina Worland shot a 67.

BASEBALL Effingham (St. Anthony) 5, Centralia (Christ Our Rock Lutheran) 4

The St. Anthony Bulldogs defeated Centralia (Christ Our Rock Lutheran) on Monday, 5-4.

Beau Adams went 2-for-4 with one double. Aiden Lauritzen went 2-for-4 with one double and two runs. Brady Hatton went 1-for-4 with one home run, one run and four RBIs. Max Koenig went 1-for-3 with one double and one run and Nick Ruholl went 2-for-3 with one RBI.

Ruholl and Adams pitched for St. Anthony (16-0). Ruholl allowed seven hits, three runs (one earned) and five strikeouts over 4 2/3 innings; Adams allowed one hit, one unearned run and one walk to two strikeouts over 2 1/3 innings.

Teutopolis 19, Odin 0

The Teutopolis Wooden Shoes defeated Odin on Monday, 19-0.

Garrett Gaddis went 1-for-1 with one run. Davin Worman went 1-for-1 with one triple, one run and one RBI. Mick Niebrugge went 1-for-1 with one run and one RBI. Henry Thompson went 1-for-1 with one triple, one run and two RBIs. Austin Borries went 2-for-2 with one run and two RBIs. Teagan Pals went 1-for-1 with one RBI. Alex Kremer went 1-for-2 with one RBI. Brett Kreke went 1-for-2 with one run and one RBI and Zac Niebrugge went 1-for-2 with two runs.

Kremer and Mick Niebrugge pitched for Teutopolis (12-3). Kremer had eight strikeouts in three innings; Niebrugge allowed two walks to two strikeouts in one inning.

Dieterich 9, Bluford (Webber) 2

The Dieterich Movin Maroons defeated Bluford (Webber) on Monday, 9-2.

Justin Boerngen went 1-for-3 with one run, one RBI and one walk. Gavin Meinhart went 1-for-3 with one triple, one run and two RBIs. Jaxon Funneman went 1-for-4. Lucas Westendorf went 2-for-2 with one double, one run, one RBI and one walk. Dominic Ashley went 1-for-44 with one RBI. Andrew Hall went 1-for-3 with one run and one walk. Mason Lidy went 1-for-4 with one run and Landon Keck went 1-for-4 with one double, one run, two RBIs and one walk.

Ashley and Lidy pitched for Dieterich (6-9). Ashley allowed four hits, two runs (one earned) and four walks to 13 strikeouts over 6 2/3 innings; Lidy pitched 1/3 of an inning.

Stewardson-Strasburg/Windsor 6, Farina (South Central) 2

The Stewardson-Strasburg Hatchets beat the South Central Cougars on Monday, 6-2.

Jackson Gurgel went 1-for-4 with one double and two RBIs. Connor Manhart went 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI. Blayzz Verdeyen went 1-for-4 with one home run, one run and two RBIs. Branson Tingley went 1-for-4 with one run and one walk and Carter Verdeyen went 1-for-4 with one run.

Colten Bridges and Tingley pitched for Stewardson-Strasburg (7-6). Bridges allowed five hits, two runs (one earned) and one walk to one strikeout over four innings; Tingley allowed two hits and one walk to two strikeouts over three innings.

For South Central (12-5), Zane Montes went 1-for-3. Trevan Sidwell went 1-for-4. Colton Smith went 2-for-4. Maddox Robb went 1-for-3. Colby Bursott went 1-for-2 with one home run, one run, one RBI and one walk and Hudson Moore went 1-for-3.

Sidwell and Evan Hoover pitched for South Central. Sidwell allowed four hits, five runs (one earned) and three walks to two strikeouts over 6 1/3 innings; Hoover allowed two hits, one run and two walks over 2/3 of an inning.

Beecher City/Cowden-Herrick 9, Mulberry Grove 2

The Beecher City Bobcats defeated Mulberry Grove on Monday in the Egyptian Illini Conference Tournament, 9-2.

Clayton Wojcik had two doubles, three RBIs and two runs. Wyatt Rueff had one double and two RBIs. AJ Radloff had one single and two RBIs. Carson Evans had two singles and two runs. Layne Jones had one run and one RBI and Blake Mueller had one single and three runs.

Kyle Lamb pitched for Beecher City (8-4). He allowed two runs and three walks to seven strikeouts over seven innings.

Louisville (North Clay) 10, Woodlawn 0

The Noth Clay Cardinals defeated Woodlawn on Monday, 10-8.

Ian Jones went 2-for-2 with one run, one RBI and one walk. Cayden Craig went 1-for-3 with one run and one RBI. Carder Walden went 1-for-1 with three runs and two walks and Ayden Jones went 1-for-2 with one run and one RBI. Jack Compton pitched for North Clay (10-8). He allowed four hits and one walk to six strikeouts over five innings.

Brownstown/St. Elmo 16, Ramsey 6

The Brownstown/St. Elmo Bombers defeated Ramsey on Monday in the Egyptian Illini Conference Tournament, 16-6.

Josiah Maxey went 1-for-4 with one RBI. Adam Atwood went 3-for-4 with one double and three RBIs. Cade Schaub went 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Collin Maxey went 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI. Keelan Speagle went 3-for-4 with two RBIs. Lane Stine went 1-for-1. Dodge Willms went 2-for-4 and Gavin Sanders went 1-for-3 with two RBIs.

Corey Hoopingarner pitched for Brownstown (5-11). He allowed no runs or hits and one walk to five strikeouts over two innings.

Neoga (1-14) did not provide any stats.

VOLLEYBALL Teutopolis 2, Greenville 0

The Teutopolis Lady Shoes defeated Greenville in two sets on Monday at J.H. Griffin Gym.

Teutopolis (10-10) won the first set 25-7 and the second 25-18.

Emma Deters had seven kills, one ace, one block, three digs and one assist. Sara Niemerg had three kills, one block and one dig. TaNeal Einhorn had five kills, two blocks and three digs. RyLee Dittamore had three kills, two aces, one block, two digs and one assist. Molly Pals had three kills, 10 aces, one block and three digs. Sara Zumbahlen had two kills and two assists. Kaylie Jordan had two assists. Kaitlyn Tebbe had one ace and one dig. Claresa Ruholl had nine digs. Danielle Probst had two aces, three digs and 15 assists and Summer Wall had four digs.

"It was nice to be aggressive in the first set, especially with Molly's roll serving, but in the second set, we got sloppy," said head coach Jim Dietz in an email to the Daily News. "(There were) too many unforced errors where we weren't pressured to make mistakes. We were fortunate that it didn't blow up in our face."

Louisville (North Clay) 2, Dieterich 0

The North Clay Lady Cardinals defeated the Dieterich Movin Maroons in two sets on Monday.

North Clay (19-3, 4-0 National Trail Conference) won the first set 25-23 and the second 25-16.

Samantha Craig had eight kills, five digs and one assist. Camdyn Tappendorf had five kills, three aces, one block, five digs and 16 assists. Kyia Cone had five kills and one dig. Miah Ballard had three kills, one ace and 11 digs. Morgan Hance had two kills, one ace and six digs. Callie Johnson had one kill and two digs. Keidra Kuenstler had three aces and 12 digs and Sydney Kincaid had three digs.

As for Dieterich (4-9, 1-3 National Trail Conference), no stats were provided.

Toledo (Cumberland) 2, Neoga 0

The Cumberland Lady Pirates defeated the Neoga Indians in two sets on Monday.

Cumberland (7-12) won the first set 25-23 and the second 25-18.

Katelyn Shoemaker had five kills, three aces, two blocks and seven blocks. McKenzie Matteson had five kills and three digs. Alysa Dittamore had two kills, one block, seven blocks and nine assists. Charlee Thornton had two kills, two blocks and one dig. Brielle Aaron had one kill, two blocks and four digs. Hannah Shoemaker had one kill and two digs. Moweaqua (Central A&M) 2, Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City 1

The Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City Bobcats fell to Moweaqua (Central A&M) in three sets on Monday.

CHBC (5-9) won the first set 25-17, lost the second 18-25 and lost the third 23-25.

Karlee Smith had four kills, three aces and four digs. Ellie Miller had three aces and nine digs. Marissa Summers had one kill, two aces, seven assists and three digs. Macee Rodman had four kills, three aces and 15 digs. Birgen Schlanser had one kill and 10 digs. Kyleigh Wallace had two kills, one assist and five digs. Sarah Doedtman had two digs and Katlyn Arnett had three digs.

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg 2, Farina (South Central) 0

The Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg Hatchets defeated the South Central Lady Cougars in two sets on Monday.

Windsor (10-3, 4-0 National Trail Conference) won the first set 25-14 and the second 25-14.

Ella Kinkelaar had one kill, 14 assists and three digs. Gabby Vonderheide had six kills. Halle Moomaw had four aces, five kills and one dig. Kinley Quast had three aces, two assists and four digs. GIRLS GOLF Apollo Conference Tournament

The Effingham Flaming Hearts finished second at the Apollo Conference Tournament on Monday.

Effingham shot a team score of 361.

Elena Niebrugge fired a final round of 85. Ella Tuman shot an 89. Grace Harper shot a 92. Makenna Mayhood shot a 95. Natalie Armstrong shot a 98 and Mya Harvey shot a 109.

Niebrugge, Tuman and Harper earned Apollo Conference All-Conference honors following that match.

Effingham (St. Anthony) Invitational

St. Anthony and Teutopolis competed at the St. Anthony Invitational at Effingham Country Club on Monday.

The Bulldogs finished second with a team score of 178.

Addie Krouse shot a final round of 37. Sydney Kibler shot a 41.

Mia Schwing shot a 49. Gianna Frisbie and Brooklyn Phillips each shot a 51 and Nora Trupiano shot a 53.

The Lady Shoes finished third with a team score of 211.

Brileigh Bloemer shot a final round of 49. Halle Bushue shot a 51. Olivia Wermert shot a 55. Hildi Niemerg shot a 56. Brooke Thoele shot a 58 and Sophia Martin shot a 59.

GIRLS TENNIS Effingham 8, Salem 1

The Effingham Flaming Hearts defeated Salem on Monday, 8-1.

In singles matches, Izzy Volpi beat Avery Robinson (6-2, 6-0), Charly Kreke beat Ella Robinson (6-4, 6-2) and Kristen Armstrong defeated Lauren Burge (6-2, 6-0).

In doubles matches, Volpi and Armstrong beat Avery Robinson and Burge (6-0). Kreke and Cora Hartmann defeated Madison Keserauskis and Ella Robinson (6-2, 6-1) and Makenna Duckwitz and Addy Hemrich beat Marley Donoho and Shayla Prosise (6-2, 6-2).
