MONDAY PREP ROUNDUP: Nelson scores 43 in Altamont's win over North Clay; Effingham girls defeat Charleston

Dec. 12—LOUISVILLE — The Altamont Lady Indians defeated the North Clay Lady Cardinals, 78-73, at North Clay High School.

Grace Nelson led Altamont (7-2, 4-0 National Trail Conference) with 43 points.

Peyton Osteen had 13 points. Kaylee Lurkins had 11. Kylie Osteen had five. Brianna Grunloh had four and Libby Reardon had two.

As for North Clay (4-7, 0-4 National Trail Conference), Miah Ballard led with 35 points.

Matia Price had 23 points. Alexis VanDyke had eight and Leah Wetherholt had seven.

Effingham 61, Charleston 21

The Effingham Flaming Hearts defeated Charleston, 61-21, at Charleston High School.

Bria Beals and Saige Althoff led Effingham (9-2, 2-2 Apollo Conference) with 13 points each.

Bella Austin had 10 points. Sidney Donaldson had nine. Olivia Moser had eight. Averie Wolfe had five and Alyssa Martin had three.

Toledo (Cumberland) 37, Bethany (Okaw Valley) 33

The Cumberland Pirates defeated Bethany (Okaw Valley), 37-33, at Okaw Valley High School.

Katelyn Shoemaker led Cumberland (5-7, 2-1 Lincoln Prairie Conference) with 13 points.

Alysa Dittamore had 12 points. Jade Carr had 11 and Jadalyn Sowers had one.

Newton 53, Salem 36

The Newton Lady Eagles defeated Salem, 53-36, at Salem High School.

Camryn Martin led Newton (6-4) with 18 points, six rebounds and five steals.

Karasyn Martin had 12 points, two assists and five steals. Lilly Kessler had 12 points and 14 rebounds. Macy Barthelemy had six points. Elley Bennett had three points and seven assists and Allie Hermann had two points.

Woodlawn 65, Farina (South Central) 41

The South Central Cougars fell to Woodlawn, 65-41, at Woodlawn High School.

Taegan Webster led South Central (4-4) with 12 points.

Lauren Johnson had eight points. Brooke Cowger had seven. Kaitlyn Swift and Percilla Reid each had six and Addi Conant had two.

WRESTLING

Effingham 41, Wood River (East Alton) 18

The Effingham Flaming Hearts defeated Wood River (East Alton), 41-18, on Saturday in the first match of the Benton Neal Wilson Invitational.

Kaiden Stewart and Mason Bushue won by forfeit at 120 and 126 pounds, respectively. Clinton Metcalf won at 175 pounds.

Baker Moon defeated Jamal Burgess at 132 pounds by injury in four minutes and 14 seconds. Saul Ellis beat Landon Johnson at 150 pounds by pinfall in 22 seconds. Wyatt Haycraft beat Lucas Morton at 157 pounds by a 20-3 decision. Gage Emmerich defeated Marley Waggoner at 165 pounds by pinfall in 28 seconds and Jeremiah Lorton fell to Drake Champion at 215 pounds by pinfall in one minute and 54 seconds.

Harrisburg 65, Effingham 9

Effingham fell to Harrisburg, 65-9, in the second match of the day.

Ellis defeated Brock Felty at 150 pounds by an 11-4 decision and Emmerich won by forfeit at 165 pounds.

Stewart lost to Neil Rocko at 120 pounds by pinfall in two minutes and 28 seconds. Bushue lost to Tony Keene at 126 pounds by pinfall in 15 seconds. Moon lost to Kamarhi Terry at 132 pounds by an 18-8 decision. Haycraft lost to Briar Butler at 157 pounds by pinfall in three minutes and Metcalf lost to Braxton Welgy at 175 pounds by pinfall in five minutes and nine seconds.

Tolono (Unity) 60, Effingham 12

Effingham fell to Tolono (Unity), 60-12, in the third match of the day.

Stewart defeated Bryce Martin at 120 pounds by pinfall in 39 seconds and Bushue won by forfeit at 126 pounds.

Moon lost to Logan Juarissen at 132 pounds by an 8-5 decision. Ellis lost to Keegan Germano at 150 pounds by a 6-4 decision. Emmerich lost to Josh Heath at 157 pounds by pinfall in three minutes and 20 seconds and Metcalf lost to Thaydun Root at 175 pounds by pinfall in 25 seconds.

Herrin 42, Effingham 30

Effingham fell to Herrin, 42-30, in the fourth match of the day.

Bushue won by forfeit at 120 pounds. Haycraft won at 157 pounds.

Stewart defeated Lukas Davidson at 126 pounds by pinfall in 30 seconds and Metcalf defeated Dan Khoshaba at 175 pounds by pinfall in one minute and 48 seconds.

Ellis lost to Blue Bishop at 150 pounds by pinfall in one minute and 58 seconds and Emmerich lost to Kolby Caffey at 165 pounds by pinfall in two minutes and 45 seconds.

Mt. Carmel 54, Effingham 24

Effingham fell to Mt. Carmel, 54-24, in the fifth and final match of the day.

Kaiden Stewart and Mason Bushue won by forfeit at 120 and 126 pounds, respectively. Ellis won at 150 pounds.

Moon defeated Aaron Sanor at 132 pounds by pinfall in one minute and 40 seconds.

Emmerich lost to Johnny Askren at 157 pounds by pinfall in one minute and 24 seconds and Metcalf lost to Jackson Hines at 175 pounds by pinfall in 38 seconds.
