Mock trade has Nets trading Ben Simmons, picks for Pascal Siakam

The Brooklyn Nets have been trying to improve as much as they can during this offseason since they are trying to make the most of the young players and draft picks they have now. The Nets have made solid moves throughout this summer, but they haven’t been able to trade for the star-level player.

From many reports, Brooklyn had been trying to trade for Portland Trail Blazers superstar Damian Lillard ever since the offseason began. While Lillard would have been the best player that the Nets could trade for, there have also been reports that he is not interested in playing for the Nets, or any team other than the Miami Heat.

In this mock trade proposed by Greg Swartz of Bleacher Report, Brooklyn would be able to trade for a player that could make a massive difference for the Nets next season and beyond. The only thing is, would trading for this spicy player by worth it?

The Mock Trade:

Brooklyn Nets receive: Pascal Siakam and Thaddeus Young

Toronto Raptors receive: Cam Thomas, Dorian Finney-Smith, Ben Simmons, 2025 and 2027 unprotected first-round picks (via Phoenix Suns)

Should the Nets do this trade?

Trading for Siakam would be a great move for the Nets in almost any instance given his ability to play as a true power forward or as a small-ball center. Siakam is the kind of all-around player that could make things easy for guys like Mikal Bridges and Nic Claxton.

On the other side, Brooklyn would be giving up a haul for Siakam in terms of the Suns’ first-round picks in the future along with Simmons. If the Nets were trying to get rid of Simmons’ contract, getting Siakam and Young in return would be a steal.

Ultimately, if the Nets have given up on Simmons and are trying to trade for a star-level player to win a championship soon, this would be the deal for them. However, if they are willing to build around Bridges, Claxton, and Cam Johnson and support them with role players, Brooklyn may not have any other players to go after that are available.

Verdict:Yes, the Nets should do this trade.
