Columbus Crew beat LAFC to win MLS Cup

Columbus Crew were crowned MLS Cup champions in front of their ecstatic home fans on Saturday, as they beat LAFC 2-1 to secure a first MLS Cup title since 2020 and their third all-time.

Wilfried Nancy became the first Black coach in MLS history to win MLS Cup and this post-game comment about what he told his Columbus Crew players this season will go down in history: "Impossible is an opinion."

That message coupled with the incredible drive of fans who fought so hard to keep this MLS-original franchise in Columbus added to the wild celebrations at the full time whistle.

MVP of the final, Cucho Hernandez, scored a 33rd-minute penalty kick to set them on their way and four minutes later Yaw Yeboah made it 2-0 as the hosts were cruising.

LAFC did rally in the second half as Denis Bouanga made it 2-1 but Steve Cherundolo's side ran out of steam as their hopes of winning back-to-back MLS Cups fell at the final hurdle.

Columbus scored multiple goals in all six of its MLS Cup Playoffs games, as Nancy (in his first season as Crew head coach) saw his high-powered offense take MLS by storm and the Ohio club surprised everyone to become champs.
