Mitchell volleyball to hit the road to Harrisburg in Class AA volleyball SoDak 16
Nov. 7—The Mitchell High School volleyball team, seeded No. 11 in the Class AA postseason, will take on No. 6 Harrisburg in the SoDak 16 state-qualifying round on Thursday, Nov. 11.
Harrisburg had a record of 18-9, while the Kernels were 11-12 during the season. A match time has yet to be announced but will be played at Harrisburg High School.
Because the Class AA postseason is bracketed before the SoDak 16, the Harrisburg/Mitchell winner will advance to the Class AA state tournament on Thursday, Nov. 18 to play either No. 3 Sioux Falls Roosevelt (19-9) or No. 14 Watertown (10-16). That game will be played at 8:45 p.m. in Rapid City, the last of the four quarterfinals in the Class AA tournament.
Harrisburg won the earlier meeting this season between the two teams in three sets, played on Sept. 9 in Harrisburg.
Other SoDak 16 matchups in Class AA include No. 1 Sioux Falls Washington (27-1) hosting No. 16 Sturgis (10-20), with the winner facing either No. 8 Huron (13-10) or No. 9 Sioux Falls Jefferson (13-15).
Sioux Falls O'Gorman is the No. 2 seed (19-4), taking on No. 15 Brookings (8-19), paired with No. 7 Sioux Falls Lincoln (18-11), who will host No. 10 Aberdeen Central (12-13).
The other quadrant of the bracket includes No. 4 Brandon Valley (21-9) against No. 13 Rapid City Stevens (16-17) and No. 5 Pierre (15-5) hosting No. 12 Yankton (14-13).
