Missouri to wear names of students killed in WWI on jerseys vs. Vanderbilt

With the 100th anniversary of the end of World War I on Sunday, Missouri football is paying tribute to students who were killed in the war.

Instead of their own names on the back of their jerseys, Missouri players will wear the last names of Mizzou students who were killed in the war. The uniforms for Saturday’s game against Vanderbilt will also include a special helmet decal.

One hundred and seventeen Mizzou students were killed in the war and the program says it will reach out to the families of those students after the game is over. The school’s Memorial Union and Memorial Stadium are named for those who lost their lives in the war and Liberty Memorial, located in Kansas City, Missouri, is the site of the World War I museum.

The names of the Missouri students killed in the war are inscribed in an archway in Memorial Union. Instead of a Tiger head or block M logo on the helmet, the team will wear a decal of the medal that was given to Missourians who served in the war.
