Mississippi State football, Zach Arnett lose commitment from Starkville's Braylon Burnside

STARKVILLE — Braylon Burnside, a 2024 four-star wide receiver out of Starkville High School, announced Monday that he is decommitting from Mississippi State football.

"I would like to thank the hometown for the loyalty and love that you all showed me," Burnside wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter. "I have been committed to Mississippi State since June 2023. I've dreamed about playing in Davis Wade Stadium for a long time, but God has another plan. Due to unforeseen circumstances, I am decommitting from Mississippi State and reopening my recruitment."

Burnside committed to MSU over a field that included rival Ole Miss, Auburn, Texas A&M, Arkansas and Illinois in his top six. His commitment was part of an exciting June for first-year coach Zach Arnett. Along with Burnside, the Bulldogs landed commitments from more four-star prospects, including offensive lineman Jimothy Lewis, cornerback PJ Woodland and receiver JJ Harrell.

Woodland was the first to decommit from the group last month. Harrell − who attends North Panola in Sardis, Mississippi − reaffirmed his commitment Saturday following MSU's 24-3 loss against Kentucky.

The Bulldogs have just one conference win in Arnett's first season and are in danger of snapping a 13-year bowl streak.

Against SEC foes, MSU is averaging a conference-worst 14 points per game.
