Mississippi State baseball score vs. LSU: Live updates, how to watch SEC series

STARKVILLE — Mississippi State baseball opens SEC play with a three-game series against LSU at Dudy Noble Field.

The Bulldogs (13-5) enter the weekend after splitting a pair of midweek games against South Alabama and New Orleans in Biloxi, Mississippi. LSU (16-2) enters having won two straight.

The Tigers are coming off their seventh national title in program history. However, the 2022 season featured a series win for Mississippi State against LSU, despite the Bulldogs failing to make the postseason.

However, Dudy Noble Field hasn't been as kind to MSU in the series. The Bulldogs haven't won a series at home against the Tigers since 2003.

Dakota Jordan has been hot for Mississippi State entering the series. His streak of five games with a home run ended Wednesday against UNO, though he was walked twice in the victory. He had four hits, a home run and five runs batted in against LSU last season as a freshman.

Game 1: Mississippi State 10, LSU 4

The Tigers jumped out to a 3-1 lead behind a three-run third inning against MSU starter Evan Siary. However, the Bulldogs dominated from there. Mississippi State scored one in the third, three in the fifth, one in the sixth and four in the eighth to secure a win. Freshman two-way player Nolan Stevens gave MSU 5⅔ innings of relief behind Siary, lowering his ERA to 1.84 on the season. Hunter Hines delivered a three-run home run in the eighth − his second of the game − to help provide crucial insurance runs.

Game 2: LSU 9, Mississippi State 8

LSU again jumped out to an early lead, this time building a 9-1 edge in the first three innings. Five of those runs came against MSU starter Khal Stephen. However, Mississippi State rallied with seven unanswered runs to cut the deficit to one in the seventh inning. The LSU bullpen closed strong, though, to even the series.

Game 3 (8 innings): Mississippi State 15, LSU 5

The Bulldogs closed the series with a run-rule win. MSU scored eight unanswered run to pull away and win in eight innings. The victory marked the first time since 2003 that Mississippi State won a home series against LSU. Jurrangelo Cijntje picked up the win after allowing three runs in five innings of work. Jordan and Hines hit back-to-back home runs in the fifth inning.
