Mississippi high school football top performers from Week 1 of the 2023 season

Here are Mississippi high school football top performers from Week 1 of the 2023 MHSAA season:

Offense

Easton Sartin, Bogue Chitto: Sartin ran the ball 17 times for 180 yards and three touchdowns in a 53-20 loss to Wesson.

Xavier Gayten, Brookhaven: Gayten rushed for 205 yards on 19 carries and three touchdowns in a 34-20 victory over Lawrence County.

Jay Cole Williams, Bruce: Williams had 14 carries for 152 yards and two touchdowns in a 21-7 victory over South Pontotoc. He also threw for a TD, and made six tackles on defense.

Lawrence Autry, Center Hill: Autry had 80 yards rushing and three touchdowns in a 64-0 victory over Douglass.

Deuce Flowers, Charleston: Flowers ran the ball 13 times for 152 yards and two touchdowns in a 20-16 loss to Ripley.

Andre Crosby, D’Iberville: Crosby carried the ball 15 times for 67 yards and a touchdown in a 40-17 loss to Columbia.

Kelian Stepter, D’Iberville: Stepter had a 66-yard touchdown reception.

Brenn Moody, George County: Moody ran the ball 13 times for 144 yards and three touchdowns in a 28-7 victory over East Central. He was also 7-of-7 passing for 82 yards.

Jacobe Street, George County: Street rushed for 123 yards on 13 attempts and one touchdown.

Dylan Moran, Hancock: Moran threw for 220 yards and four touchdowns in a 42-20 victory over Natchez.

Zach Gullung, Hancock: Gullung carried the ball 25 times for 185 yards and two touchdowns. He also had a TD reception.

Caleb Schaefer, Hancock: Schaefer had four catches for 81 yards and two touchdowns.

Tri Gaughf, Harrison Central: Gaughf was 10-of-15 passing for 275 yards and a touchdown in a 21-12 victory over Ridgeland. He also rushed for a TD.

Tyree Barnett, Harrison Central: Barnett had three catches for 115 yards and a touchdown.

Tristan Keys, Hattiesburg: Keys had three catches for 145 yards and a touchdown in a 34-27 loss to Petal.

Tavares Wade, Hattiesburg: Wade ran the ball 17 times for 84 yards and a touchdown.

Tony Vance, Hattiesburg: Vance was 6-of-11 passing for 118 yards.

Topher Jones, Hernando: Jones had 19 carries for 192 yards and four touchdowns in a 41-26 victory over Rosa Fort. He also threw for a TD.

Brady Kelly, Kossuth: Kelly ran the ball nine times for 75 yards and two touchdowns in a 28-0 victory over Baldwyn. Defensively, he had eight tackles and a fumble recovery.

Tripp Morrow, Lamar: Morrow had 14 receptions for 251 yards and three touchdowns in a 42-21 victory over Presbyterian Christian.

Elliot Helps, Lewisburg: Helps had 16 solo tackles and eight assists in a 14-3 loss to Lake Cormorant.

Kody Gilmore, Lewisburg: Gilmore had four solo tackles, two assists and an interception.

Xavion Nunn, North Pike: Nunn threw for 85 yards and two touchdowns in a 41-8 victory over Franklin County.

Kylan Rhodes, Olive Branch: Rhodes carried the ball 23 times for 292 yards and three touchdowns in a 49-22 victory over ECS.

Jerry Wall, Olive Branch: Wall ran for 78 yards and three touchdowns. Defensively, he had a 47-yard interception return for a TD.

DJ Booth, Sacred Heart: Booth carried the ball 20 times for 136 yards and two touchdowns in 28-13 victory over St. Patrick.

Kyron Murphy, Sacred Heart: Murphy was 10-of-19 passing for 156 yards and two touchdowns.

Adarius McDougle, Sebastopol: McDougle had 17 carries for 164 yards and five touchdowns in a 40-20 victory over McAdams. He also threw for a TD.

Ian Gael Gonzalez Rioz, St. Stanislaus: Gonzalez Rioz ran the ball 13 times for 197 yards and four touchdowns in a 31-6 victory over Forrest County.

Jeremiah Harrell, Tupelo: Harrell threw for 100 yards and two touchdowns in a 37-0 victory over Whitehaven.

JJ Hill, Tupelo: Hill had 56 rushing yards and two touchdowns.

Kyle Capers, Vancleave: Capers carried the ball 14 times for 88 yards and three touchdowns in a 42-7 victory over St. Martin.

Jaylen Johnson, Vancleave: Johnson rushed for 100 yards and a touchdown.

Chase Richardson, Winona: Richardson threw for 191 yards, ran for 200 yards and accounted for three touchdowns in a 47-14 victory over Newton County.

Defense

Marshall Hart, Bogue Chitto: Hart had 11 tackles, including five for loss, in a 53-20 loss to Wesson.

Kaleb McAlister, Center Hill: McAlister had five tackles, including one for loss, in a 64-0 win against Douglass.

Shaun Williams, Columbus: Williams had 14 tackles and an interception in a 22-16 loss to Houston.

Malcolm Gowdy, Marquise Washington and Jimmie Jackson, D’Iberville: The Warrior trio had six tackles apiece in a 40-17 loss to Columbia.

Boone Wilson, Harrison Central: Wilson had 15 solo tackles, two assists, a sack and a forced fumble in a 20-12 win against Ridgeland.

Marlos Walker, Harrison Central: Walker had 10 solo tackles and a fumble recovery.

Cameron Craft and Brandon Mitchell, Hattiesburg: Craft and Mitchell had seven and six solo tackles, respectively, in a 34-27 loss to Petal.

Sam Walton and Ethan Sanders, Olive Branch: Walton and Sanders each had nine total tackles in a 49-22 victory over ECS.

Typerious Green and Shamaar Darden, Tupelo: Green and Darden each had four tackles in a 37-0 win against Whitehaven. Green also had a sack.

Jaboree Dooley, Tupelo: Dooley returned an interception 20 yards for a touchdown.

Special Teams

Freddie Lopez, Ripley: Lopez kicked field goals of 38 and 49 yards in a 20-16 victory against Charleston.
