Former Hortonville baseball standout pitcher Caleb Boushley is returning to the major leagues after being called up by the Minnesota Twins on Wednesday.

Boushley, 30, was 3-1 with a 4.00 ERA and 30 strikeouts in 27 innings pitched for the Twins' Triple-A affiliate St. Paul. He was with the Milwaukee Brewers last season and earned his first major league win against the Chicago Cubs on Sept. 29.

The Twins are 17-13 this season and are on a 10-game winning streak. They begin a three-game series at home against the Boston Red Sox on Friday.

Boushley was originally selected by the San Diego Padres in the 33rd round of the 2017 MLB draft after a solid career at UW-La Crosse. He is a 2012 Hortonville graduate. He signed a minor league contract with the Twins in January.

When Boushley pitched for the Brewers last season, he became the 12th Wisconsin-born player to appear in a game for the Brewers.

"You try to play out how it’s going to go in your head, but when you’re in the moment, you just take it a pitch at a time," Boushley said after the game. "But, yeah, it’s better than a dream."

To make room for Boushley on the roster, the Twins optioned left-handed pitcher Kody Funderburk to the Saints. Funderburk was 1-0 with a 3.38 ERA in 11 relief appearances for the Twins this season.
