Brewers bust out the bats and Colin Rea delivers strong start for blowout win over Mariners

Three series in, the Milwaukee Brewers have yet to lose one.

The Brewers put the finishing touches on a series win over the Seattle Mariners in emphatic fashion, winning 12-4 on Sunday afternoon at American Family Field.

William Contereras had four hits and two home runs and Willy Adames also went deep for the Brewers, who scored a season-high for runs.

Colin Rea earned the win, his second in as many starts in 2024, with six innings of two-run ball.

William Contreras just missed a three-homer game

Facing Mariners utilityman Josh Rojas in the eighth inning and the Brewers ahead, 10-2, Contreras drove a ball out to center field for his second homer of both the game and season.

Contreras nearly had three dingers on the day, but his deep drive to right field in the fourth inning caromed off the very top of the yellow line on the wall and back into play.

BOX SCORE: Brewers 12, Mariners 4

Brewers chase Mariners starter Emerson Hancock in the fourth

The bats didn't cool down after a torrid start Sunday. Oliver Dunn opened up the fourth with a triple down the line in right. William Contreras followed with a deep liner off the top of the wall in right to score Dunn. Contreras missed his second homer of the day by inches and to make matters worse was thrown out at second base.

But one batter later, Willy Adames went deep for his second homer of the year to make it 8-2, Brewers, and end Emerson Hancock's afternoon.

Righty Collin Snider took over for Hancock in the fourth but he didn't last long. He faced three batters, the third of which, Sal Frelick, smashed a 102 mph line drive off Snider's leg for a single to load the bases. After a lengthy visit from the Mariners training staff and manager Scott Servais, he exited the game. Tayler Saucedo entered.

The Brewers would tack on two more runs to go ahead 10-2.

William Contreras goes deep in big second inning

The Mariners cut the deficit to 3-2 in the top of the second inning on a Dylan Moore RBI single, but the Brewers responded quickly.

Brice Turang opened the inning with a single, stole second and moved to third on Blake Perkins' single through the left side of the infield. A groundout by Dunn drove Turang home.

Contreras broke the lead open to four by turning on a low-and-in slider from Emerson Hancock and roping it over the left-field fence at 104.2 mph. The Brewers lead, 6-2.

Sal Frelick, Brewers respond with a three-run first inning

Sal Frelick capped a three-run bottom of the first with a two-out, two-run double to left field to score Jake Bauers and William Contreras. Bauers had opened the scoring two batters prior with a single under the glove of a diving Luke Raley in right field.

Mariners open scoring early against Colin Rea

It took three batters for the Mariners to jump in front on the scoreboard. Julio Rodriguez singled with one out and advanced to second when the ball bounced away from left fielder Sal Frelick. Jorge Polanco drove Rodriguez in with a single down the line in right field.
