Milwaukee Brewers game Sunday vs. Phillies available only on Peacock

The Milwaukee Brewers game Sunday at home against Philadelphia will only be available on the streaming service Peacock and, yes, you're going to need a separate subscription to get it.

Not only that, but the series finale against the Phillies will also be at an unusual time — at least, for Sunday games at American Family Field — with a first pitch set for 12:05 p.m. CT. The game is part of Peacock's "Sunday Leadoff" schedule, an expanded partnership between MLB and NBC Sports this year.

You'll need to pay at least $5.99 to see Sunday's Brewers game

The "premium" subscription offered by Peacock is the cheapest option to watch the Brewers game, a one-month pass to Peacock content. That's a cost of $5.99, although it means you'll also have access to the service's other streaming shows for the next 30 days.

There's also an $11.99 option called "premium plus" with no ads and access to live programming on the local NBC channel, plus the ability to download titles for viewing offline.

Like most streaming services, you can sign up, pay and cancel right away to avoid an auto-renewal and still get the access for a month.

Is there a free trial for Peacock?

No. Trial episodes of some shows are offered, but that doesn't help you for sports broadcasts.

Isn't UW football going to be on Peacock this year, too?

Yes, the Wisconsin football team's home game against Rutgers will also exclusively be available on Peacock. The bad news is that the timing doesn't quite work out to get both contests under the same one month of spending; the Badgers game is Oct. 7.

You can also choose to sign up for a year at $59.99.

Can I watch the game at a bar, at least?

Don't count on it. Though there is a service known as Peacock Sports Pass for bars to broadcast Peacock sports content, MLB is not among the listed offerings.

Streaming services will continue to grab more games

By now, Brewers fans are used to seeing an occasional Friday game available only on AppleTV+, and NFL fans have gotten used to seeing "Thursday Night Football" on Amazon. Don't expect it to slow down, especially in the baseball climate where regional sports networks (RSNs) have run into financial hardship.

"I think they're going to have to split these up and get you to pay in multiple different ways to make up what (sports leagues) are going to lose on the RSN side," said Jason Gurwin of The Streamable, discussing the tenuous situation with Diamond Sports (the company that operates Bally Sports Wisconsin) going bankrupt.

How big of a deal is this game?

Wade Miley will start against Phillies left-hander Ranger Suárez, with temperatures expected in the really, really hot range. The Phillies hold the top wild-card spot right now and sit tied with the Brewers in win/loss record, so it stands to reason there could be something on the line in this game. Perhaps it's a tiebreaker that will come in handy by the end of the month and perhaps it's just an opportunity to further strengthen playoff positioning.
