Mike McCarthy sets expectations for Trevon Diggs to begin practice

The biggest news through the first week of Dallas’ training camp in Oxnard, CA has centered around contracts. Right guard Zack Martin is not in attendance because he wants his contract redone. Meanwhile, the first of Cowboys’ young stars received his extension, as Trevon Diggs came to terms the day before the first practice. Still, fans haven’t had the chance to see him on the field yet, just as they haven’t Martin.

That’s because Diggs has been nursing a bruised toe. He’s with the team, attending meetings and being with them, but he’s been relegated to the sidelines. On Saturday, head coach Mike McCarthy gave some additional insight, including when Diggs is expected to rejoin his brethren in Dan Quinn’s secondary.

Dallas is patiently waiting to unveil their dynamic duo at corner, after trading for future Hall of Famer Stephon Gilmore in the spring. Gilmore has been having fun taking on fellow newcomer Brandin Cooks in drills, as the team has yet to don pads. Having Diggs join the fun in checking Cooks and CeeDee Lamb on the outside will only heighten the impact of practice in making the entire team better.
