Michigan high school football AP rankings after Week 5, where Northern Michigan teams stand

LANSING — Keep winning, keep getting noticed.

The eyes on the Gaylord football team have certainly grown over the last few weeks, with the Blue Devils continuing to move up within the Associated Press Michigan High School Football Poll.

After opening at No. 10 in the first batch of Division 3 rankings, Gaylord came in at No. 7 after their most recent win over Cadillac on the road Friday night.

Now 5-0 on the season, it’s the first unbeaten start through five games since the 2003 season for Gaylord. They’ve also had 4-0 starts in 2014, 2015 and 2018.

The Blue Devils will try to avoid what happened in each of those three recent seasons, however, with four losses later following in the season.

They’ll meet Alpena (1-4) at home this week, then finish with Escanaba, Division 7 No. 1 ranked Jackson Lumen Christi and then Sault Ste. Marie.

Also within the rankings, Pickford (5-0) moved up one spot in the 8-Player Division 1 rankings to No. 2, then St. Ignace (5-0) jumped up to No. 5 in the same poll. Inland Lakes (4-1) remained ranked at No. 9.

Gaylord St. Mary (4-1) also moved closer to being rankings, picking up five points in Division 1, the most points of anyone within the honorable mention group.

Both Charlevoix (4-1) and East Jordan (4-1) picked up honorable mention within Division 7 and 8, respectively.

Other Northern Michigan teams ranked included Kingsley (4-1) at No. 7 in Division 6 and Frankfort (5-0) at No. 10 in Division 8.
