Michigan football is returning home tonight: Here's how you can greet the team

Just as promised, Michigan football will return to Ann Arbor with another piece of hardware to add to the trophy case at Schembechler Hall.

The Wolverines are flying back to Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport on Tuesday evening as 2023 national champions, and are expected to be back in Ann Arbor at approximately 7:30 p.m., according to the team.

On the return to Ann Arbor, Michigan's team buses will drive through the heart of the city down South University Drive and S. State Street on its way back to Schembechler Hall. The team is also inviting any fans interested in welcoming them home to meet them at the back practice fields at Schembechler Hall, where coach Jim Harbaugh and players will address the crowd.

"The public can enter the practice field through the back gates along the train tracks, accessed through the Blue Lots around Crisler Center," the university said in a statement. "That Blue Lot location is also where fans are encouraged to park."

Also, Michigan said details regarding a formal celebration this Saturday will be announced Wednesday morning.

However, inclement weather in the metro area could delay the arrival. Southeast Michigan is preparing for the first big snowfall of the year, which will then melt due to high temperatures, increasing flooding chances and potentially impacting incoming flights.

Michigan is coming home to a storm after one nearly threw a wrench in the plans of the championship. Houston was hit with severe thunderstorms and two tornadoes touched down north of the city the night of the game, which led to some leaks in the NRG Stadium roof during pregame warmups.
