Micah Hyde, Jordan Poyer both named among PFF’s best ‘all-around safeties’
Pro Football Focus gets down to the nitty gritty details when it comes to their NFL statistics. The football analytics outlet took that approach again when naming the best safeties in the league.
But the Buffalo Bills’ safety duo of Micah Hyde and Jordan Poyer made PFF’s vague category–it still is likely the best one for them to land in.
After ranking the best safeties in the NFL at doing specific jobs, Hyde and Poyer eventually were named among the best “all-around safeties.”
Hyde and Poyer clocked in at third and fourth, respectively.
Here’s the breakdown:
Micah Hyde and Jordan Poyer each fit into this category for the Buffalo Bills and together may form the best safety duo in the league. Each can line up anywhere they are needed within the scheme and playing next to one another is clearly a force multiplier for their success. Buffalo runs a scheme that puts them in position to succeed, but they take advantage of it extremely well on their own.
Hyde and Poyer have long been considered amongst the best NFL safety duos. Even PFF has consistently called them that.
Now it just remains to be seen how long that will continue.
Poyer is entering the final year of his current contract. He wants an extension and has sat out spring workouts in an effort to get a deal done.
While both are now in their early 30s, there is reason to believe this pair can continue their successes together for a couple of more years. It just remains to be seen if they’ll get a chance to do so.
Regarding the rest of PFF’s list, under the all-around category the only two to appear ahead of the Bills players are the Minnesota Vikings’ Harrison Smith and Green Bay Packers’ Adrian Amos at the top.
