Now 0-2 to start the season, the Miami Dolphins should find some relief this week. Taking on the Cleveland Browns, the Dolphins’ will also be playing in their home opener and should have some key advantages in this contest. Doing well, Miami will be looking to take any momentum from that game into the rest of their season as they try to recover from there start.

Every week this season, we will spend one day a week taking a look at the offensive player to watch and one day on the defensive player to watch from the Miami Dolphins. For the third week of the season I am trying to stay away from obvious picks. For this week’s game, we will be taking a look at a player the Miami Dolphins will be leaning on to help lead the defense from the linebacking ranks, Kiko Alonso.

Dolphins News: Offensive player to watch for week three

Kiko Alonso — Linebacker

Taking on the Cleveland Browns and their third-string cornerback, the Miami Dolphins can count on the Browns trying to run the ball early and often. However, the team’s passing threat cannot be underestimated making the middle of the defense key personnel for the week three contest. Leading this group, I expect that to be Kiko Alonso.

A tackling machine his rookie year in Buffalo, Alonso has seen multiple setbacks stymie his career. Missing the entire 2014 season with a torn ACL and part of last year with multiple injuries, Alonso has entered the 2016 season with a chip on his shoulder. In his first two games this year, Alonso has amassed 22-total tackles.

Add in there his two fumble recoveries and Alonso has been a major force in the Dolphins’ linebacking corps. If he continues to play as well as he already is, Alonso could be the Dolphins pickup of the summer while also providing the team with it’s best linebacker since Zach Thomas.

Playing in the area of the field that is needed to both stop the run and the pass, Alonso will be a key player in the middle of the Miami Dolphins defense. Dropping into coverage as well as blitzing, Alonso will be a key player this Sunday and could ultimately determine how successful the Miami defense is against the Browns.
