Who is Mia Williams? Meet Jason Williams' daughter, Florida softball freshman second baseman

Perhaps Mia Williams was always destined to be a Florida Gator with who her parents are.

Nearly seven years after committing to playing for Florida softball when she was just 12 years old seventh grader, Williams is playing a vital role for the No. 4 seed Gators (49-12) hosts Baylor (35-21) in the Gainesville Super Regional, with Game 1 starting at noon EST Friday at Katie Seashole Pressly Stadium.

At the time of her commitment, Williams was the youngest recruit to ever commit to a Division I program. While the decision drew some ire on social media, it made a ton of sense, especially if you know Williams' parents. Softball rules have changed and no longer allow for that early of commitments.

Her father, Jason Williams, started his collegiate career at Marshall before following Billy Donovan to Florida. At the same time, her mother, Denika Kisty, was a former track and field athlete at Florida.

Is Mia Williams related to Jason Williams?

Yes, Williams is the daughter of Jason Williams, who played at Florida for one season in 1997-98 and was drafted No. 7 overall in the 1998 NBA Draft by the Sacramento Kings. The man nicknamed "White Chocolate" helped the Miami Heat win an NBA Championship in 2006.

“To this day, people will find out who my dad is, and they’ll ask me, ‘Why don’t you play basketball?’" Williams said to Saturday Down South. "I’m not him. I’m someone else. I get to do whatever I want, you know?”

Williams' mother ― Denika Kisty ― was an athlete with the Florida track and field team, twice earning All-American honors.

“In our house, we all think we are the best,” Denika said to FloSports in 2018. “I remind Jason weekly I’m the only All-American and he reminds me he is the only World Champion and it goes on and on.”

Mia Williams is the 'female version of Alex Rodriguez'

In Williams' last full season of high school softball at Windermere Prep, she hit for a .558 batting average, 1.645 OPS, eight home runs and 27 RBI in 27 games. She added 18 stolen bases and did not commit an error on the field. Williams was the No. 1 player in her 2023 class on Extra Inning Softball.

Williams played exclusively for the Georgia Impact-Lewis 18U team for her last two pre-college years. Her travel ball coach, Lincoln Martin, had high praise and a lofty comparison for his star.

“She’s the female version of Alex Rodriguez," Martin said.
