- The Mets (49-55) are seven games back of the third NL Wild Card spot which is currently held in a tie by the 56-48 Philadelphia Phillies and 57-49 Cincinnati Reds. New York, on the heels of Saturday's 11-6 loss to the Nationals, seeks its first series win since it took 2 of 3 against the Chicago White Sox last Tuesday through Wednesday at Citi Field.

- In Saturday's game, Francisco Alvarez launched his 20th home run of the season. He is slashing .232/.294/.500 with 42 RBI through 78 games.

- Verlander enters what could be his final start with the Mets as he is the focus of New York's next potential move at the MLB trade deadline Tuesday. The Houston Astros are interested in Verlander, according to SNY's Andy Martino.

Verlander, who is 5-5 with a 3.24 ERA and 1.15 WHIP in 15 starts this season.

He allowed two hits while striking out six and walking four in six scoreless innings of his latest start, this past Tuesday's 9-3 win at the Yankees.

Who is starting for the Nationals?

RHP Trevor Williams, the former Met from 2021-22, who is 5-5 with a 4.47 ERA and 1.44 WHIP in 21 starts this season.

He allowed four runs on nine hits (one homer) while striking out three and walking none in six innings of his latest start, this past Tuesday's 6-5 win over the Colorado Rockies.
