Who is starting for the Mets?
Carlos Carrasco takes the ball for the Mets looking to rebound from his recent struggles. After a strong start prior to the All-Star break, the veteran right-hander has taken a giant leap backward.
Carrasco has allowed 21 runs across 15.1 innings for a 12.33 ERA in four starts since then. His last time out, he pitched well in the middle innings but was hurt by a late long ball in a loss to the Royals. He was able to pitch deeper than his last few starts but still allowed six runs on eight hits across six innings.
Overall, the 36-year-old has posted a 6.60 ERA, 1.64 WHIP, and 52 strikeouts through 16 starts this season.
However, in four career starts against the Northsiders he has posted a 2.74 ERA in 23.0 innings of work. He most recently allowed just one run on five hits in 6.2 innings pitched at Wrigley Field on May 25.
Who is starting for the Cubs?
Carrasco and the Mets will be opposed by Jameson Taillon in this one. The right-hander is making his 20th start of the season and he's fared much better of late.
Taillon has four wins in his previous five starts and has pitched to a 2.08 ERA in 30 innings of work over that span. His last time out he held the powerful Reds lineup to just two runs on seven hits while striking out five and walking two across five innings.
The former Yankee has posted a 5.36 ERA, 1.40 WHIP, and 82 strikeouts over his 19 starts so far. In three career starts against the Mets, he's allowed just five runs while striking out 13. Lindor has two hits in four at-bats and Vogelbach has one career homer against the righty.
