Before he made his MLB debut on May 29, 2022, Smith worked through the minors with the Miami Marlins organization from 2016-19.

The Marlins traded Smith to the Rockies on Aug. 14, 2020.

Originally, Miami selected Smith from Ole Miss with the No. 323 overall pick in the 11th round of the 2016 MLB Draft.
