Mets Prospect Roundup: Mike Vasil shines in Double-A, Ronny Mauricio continues to rake

Oct 7, 2022; Peoria, Arizona, USA; New York Mets pitcher Mike Vasil plays for the Peoria Javelinas during an Arizona Fall League baseball game at Peoria Sports Complex.

Here's the latest on some of the Mets' top prospects...

INF Ronny Mauricio, Triple-A Syracuse

Ronny Mauricio continues making his presence felt in the middle of the Syracuse lineup.

The slugger crushed his seventh home run of the season on Saturday afternoon in an 8-7 walk-off loss. He went 3-for-5 with an RBI, three runs scored, and finished a triple shy of the cycle.

Mauricio also added his eighth stolen base of the season. The infielder is now riding a six-game hitting streak and he's driven in a run in each of his last four games.

On the year, he's hitting .353 with a .389 OBP, 1.011 OPS, 15 doubles, a pair of triples, and 24 RBI across 39 games. He’s also only struck out 27 times while drawing eight walks.

If Mauricio continues to rake like this it’s only a matter of time before he forces the Mets’ hand.

RHP Mike Vasil, Double-A Binghamton

Mike Vasil may be the Mets’ tenth overall prospect, according to MLB Pipeline, but he’s quickly establishing himself as one of the top arms in the organization.

The right-hander has been outstanding so far for Double-A Binghamton. Through six starts with the Rumble Ponies, he’s posted a 2.70 ERA.

His latest outing on Thursday night was by far Vasil’s best to this point in the season. The former eighth-round pick held the Hartford Yard Goats to one run on four hits while striking out seven over eight innings.

He’s now allowed just 17 hits and four walks and has 41 punch-outs through 30 innings pitched this season.

If he continues dominating like this, Vasil could find himself taking the big league mound before you know it.
