Mets to play Phillies in London during 2024 season: report

Aug 19, 2022; Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA; New York Mets designated hitter Pete Alonzo (20) hits an RBI fielder s choice against the Philadelphia Phillies during the first inning at Citizens Bank Park.

According to a new report, the Mets will be playing a series overseas in 2024.

Sports Illustrated’s Tom Verducci reports that the Mets will play the Philadelphia Phillies in London at some point in 2024.

The Mets have played games outside of the continental US and Canada in the past. In fact, they were part of the first MLB regular season series to be played outside of the States and Canada when they played a three-game set against the San Diego Padres in Monterrey, Mexico in August of 1996.

They also opened their 2000 season by playing two games against the Chicago Cubs in Tokyo.

Major League Baseball first played games in London in 2019, when the Yankees and Boston Red Sox played a pair of games. Because of COVID, no games in London have been played since, though the Cubs and St. Louis Cardinals are scheduled to play there in June, after the two teams were previously going to meet there in 2020.
