Mets Minor League Roundup: Kevin Parada homers twice in one game, Alex Ramirez records six-hit night for Brooklyn

Here's the latest on some of the Mets' top prospects...

SS/2B/OF Ronny Mauricio, Triple-A Syracuse

Mauricio has picked it back up in July after a rough June at the plate.

The 22-year-old went 2-for-5 with a home run and four RBI on July 15 against the Rochester Red Wings. After two 0-for-4 games, Mauricio went 1-for-4 with another RBI against the Buffalo Bisons on Wednesday and 3-for-5 with a solo home run on Thursday.

Through 84 games of the Triple-A campaign, he has 104 hits and 54 RBI and is now slashing .297/.343/.509 for an .852 OPS. He does, however, have 64 strikeouts to go with only 19 walks.

RHP Mike Vasil, Triple-A Syracuse

Vasil earned a win last time on the mound on July 16 against Rochester, allowing just two runs on four hits with five strikeouts over 6.0 innings of work. He lowered his season ERA to 6.75 and now owns a 3.00 ERA over two starts and 9.0 innings in the month of July.

Since making the jump from Double-A, Vasil has seen his walks go up. After walking eight in 51.0 innings for Binghamton, the 23-year-old has already walked 12 in 18.2 innings at Syracuse.

He remains the No. 8 overall prospect in the Mets' system by MLB Pipeline and is considered to be among their most major league-ready pitching prospects.

1B/3B Mark Vientos, Promoted to Mets

Vientos was called back up to the big leagues on July 20 after Starling Marte was placed on the IL and Tommy Pham suffered a groin injury.

During his last week in Triple-A, Vientos went 2-for-15 over four games with a double, RBI, two runs scored, two walks, and six strikeouts.

The slugging 23-year-old hit .264 with a home run, six doubles, a triple, and seven RBI over 53 at-bats in July. If his minor league season is done for the year, Vientos will finish with a .307/.386/.614 slash line and even 1.000 OPS to go along with 16 homers, 20 doubles, one triple and 50 RBI in 60 games.

C Kevin Parada, High-A Brooklyn

The Mets’ No. 1 prospect according to MLB Pipeline, Parada is having a very strong July.

The catcher went deep twice on July 15 against the Greensboro Grasshoppers and has gone 5-for-16 with two doubles and three RBI over four games against the Hudson Valley Renegades. He's now hitting .293 in July over 58 at-bats.

Through 78 games at Brooklyn, Parada has 19 doubles, four triples, 10 homers and 37 RBI with a .272/.354/.462 slash line with a .816 OPS. He has struck out 81 times and 30 walks.

OF Alex Ramirez, High-A Brooklyn

Ramirez, now the Mets’ No. 4 prospect, had a solid week at the dish over six games, highlighted by a 6-for-6 performance on Friday night against Hudson Valley. 

After batting .294 in April and .222 in May, Ramirez really struggled in June (.195 average in 24 games). So far in July he's hitting .271 with four doubles and six RBI over 59 at-bats.

Overall, the 20-year-old has 19 extra-base hits with five homers, 14 doubles and 38 RBI with a .241/.342/.338 slash line for a .680 OPS through 80 games with the Cyclones. He has 16 steals to his name with 43 walks and 76 strikeouts.

RHP Blade Tidwell, High-A Brooklyn

Tidwell got the win on Thursday night against Hudson Valley, allowing just one run on four hits with four strikeouts over 6.1 innings. He lowered his ERA to 3.29 and has pitched to a 2.50 ERA with 21 strikeouts over 18.0 innings in three starts this month.

In 16 starts this campaign, the righty has surrendered 32 runs (28 earned) on 53 hits over 76.2 innings with a 1.25 WHIP. He has 107 strikeouts to 43 walks, as opposing batters are hitting just .195 against him.

SS Jett Williams, Low-A St. Lucie

Williams, the Mets’ No. 3 prospect, continued to impress at the plate this past week, adding another home run and triple to his season totals. The 19-year-old has also recorded 10 walks over the last five games.

Through 45 at-bats in July, he has 12 hits (.267), five RBI and 18 walks after having a great month of June in which he had 22 hits in 77 at-bats (.286) with six extra-base hits and 13 RBI over 24 games.

Through 72 games at St. Lucie, Williams has 10 doubles, five triples, five home runs with 32 RBI and a slash line of .245/.427/.395 for a .822 OPS. He has 64 strikeouts to 65 walks.
