Meow Wolf expands into virtual reality mini golf

Nov. 20—Meow Wolf debuts in virtual reality Dec. 7 in Walkabout Mini Golf: Meow Wolf.

The Austin, Texas-based Mighty Coconut has created 23 VR Walkabout Mini Golf games since fall 2020, but this is only its third collaboration with an outside entity. Meow Wolf was the first to be "hands-on partners" with the creation of the game, said David Wyatt, head of communications at Mighty Coconut.

Meow Wolf and Mighty Coconut translated the real-life Numina "living universe upon itself" at Meow Wolf's Convergence Station in Denver into an animated virtual reality world.

Meow Wolf co-founder and senior creative director Caity Kennedy worked closely with Mighty Coconut to create a VR fantasy mini golf course.

"We get to share our artistic worlds with an exponentially larger audience all around the world," Kennedy said in a news release. "This partnership with Mighty Coconut has been an awesome way of unlocking this potential for us."

Walkabout Mini Golf: Meow Wolf will be available for download as an add-on to the Mighty Coconut base station for $3.99. The base station costs $14.99 and is available at mightycoconut.com/minigolf and can be downloaded to Meta Quest 2, PlayStation VR2, Steam and PICO platforms.

The Meow Wolf game includes 18 easy-mode and 18 hard-mode holes, collectible golf balls to seek out in the game, a commemorative putter and Meow Wolf-themed avatars. The game has familiar and new Meow Wolf creatures and more gameplay mechanics than any other Mighty Coconut mini-golf course, the company said in a news release.
