Mendon, Three Rivers continue to roll

MENDON — The Mendon Hornets continue to beat up on opponents in prep softball action.

Mendon moved to 11-0 on the season the past two days, sweeping Union City and beating Athens. It won the three games by a combined score of 40-0.

On Thursday, Mendon held Athens to just one hit in an 11-0 win. Rowan Allen pitched the Hornets to the victory with seven strikeouts covering five innings.

Jadyn Samson clubbed a home run in the game. Taya Bingaman drove in three runs, and Brielle Bailey had two RBIs with one hit as well. Allen and Ally Butler both had a hit. Cienna Nightingale and Gracie Schultz each had an RBI.

In the first game against Union City, Allen pitched the Hornets to victory with nine strikeouts over five innings. At the plate Samson, Allen, Kaidee Gonser and Bailey each had three hits. They combined to drive in seven.

Nightingale collected two hits, Abby Butler drove in one with a hit, as did Bingaman.

Mendon won 15-0 in the second contest. Allen drove in four runs with two hits while Bailey, Ally Buttler, Nightingale and Ally Butler each had two hits. They combined to drive in seven. Samson, Gonser and Bingaman each had run-scoring hits.

Ally Butler struck out four to get the win.

Three Rivers pounds on Coldwater

Three Rivers scored 24 runs in a doubleheader sweep of Coldwater on Thursday evening.

The Cats won the first game, 7-5. They scored four times in the home half of the sixth to take the win. Jennaya Decker struck out nine to pick up the win.

At the plate, Ava Forman hammered a couple of home runs. She drove in five runs.

Kendall Penny and Lanie Glass each had run-scoring hits. Three Rivers got a base hit from Dani Glass, Decker, Ellianna Raymond, Natalie Gilliam and London Hoffmaster as well.

The Cats exploded for five runs in each of the first two innings in the second game. They added seven more in the third.

Hoffmaster hit a home run in this game. She added two more hits and collectively drove in three.

Gilliam, Forman, Glass and Peyton Ware each had two hits in the game. They drove in seven.

Decker and Raymond both had a hit and two RBIs. Ashton Ware drove in one as well.

Ware picked up the win.

Dowagiac sweeps Sturgis

The Dowagiac softball team beat Sturgis twice on Thursday afternoon.

The first game was 15-0. Sturgis had a pair of hits — one each from Maddy Webb and Gracie Pagels.

Dowagiac won the second game 10-0. Sturgis registered three hits, one each from Nataliegh Jarratt, Riley Northrop and Webb.

Centreville beats Cassopolis

The Centreville softball team beat Cassopolis in a doubleheader on Thursday. The Lady Bulldogs won the contests, 7-2 and 3-2.

Drew Alexander belted three hits and drove in two in the opener, Hannah Lennard added a pair of hits with one run driven in as well. LilyAnn Lutz, Abbe Wherrett and August Blair each registered a hit while Kendalynn Bernheisel drove in two runs with a hit.

Lennard pitched the Bulldogs to the win with eight strikeouts.

Centreville hung on to win 3-2 in the nightcap despite Cassopolis putting a late charge into the game. The Rangers scored twice in the seventh.

Lutz collected two hits with an RBI, Wherrett clubbed two hits and Alexander also plated a run with a base hit. Kaylee Griggs and Laynie Cupp both added a base hit.

Nikki Lennard picked up the win in this one, striking out four.

Colon edges Climax-Scotts

The Colon softball team beat Climax-Scotts 16-13 on Thursday. The Magi scored in all but the fifth inning in the game, including four in the first and fourth plus five in the second.

Both Reese Williams and Kelsey Burgess connected for a pair of doubles in the game. They combined to drive in six. Rylie Kyle collected two RBIs with a base hit, and Madison Kulpinski finished with three hits in the game. Alyssa Hess had two hits, and Amaya Johnson added one.

Hess struck out nine in victory.

Grass Lake sweeps Bronson

The Bronson softball team dropped a doubleheader to a tough Grass Lake squad on Thursday.

"We played a very tough Grass Lake team, and we really struggled on the defensive end in our first game. I was very proud of the way we fought back the second game," Bronson coach Becky Gray said. "Even though we lost, I feel we really grew as a team. We continue to learn and grow each practice and game, and that’s all you can ask."

Bronson dropped the opener 14-4. Ciara Blankenship clubbed two hits while the trio of Ashlynn Harris, Brealyn Lasky and Braelynn Gimenez each had a single.

Grass Lake won the second game, 2-1. Mya Webb pitched all seven innings for the Vikings.

At the plate, Lydia Wells hit two singles, a double and drove in one. Harris, Lasky, Kailynne Scare and Gimenez each hit a single.

Bangor, Marcellus split

The Marcellus softball team split a pair with Bangor on Thursday. The Vikings won the opener, 6-5. Marcellus rebounded to win 11-1 in the second game.

Clare Flory belted three hits and drove in three runs for Marcellus in the first game. Layni Heuring had three hits in the contest while Addie Curtis and Makynna Harrison each had a hit a well. Both Aubree Kruger and Abby Tone drove in one with a base hit.

Heuring struck out 10 in seven innings.

In the second game, Heuring got the win and belted four hits. Curtis and Flory each had two hits while Kruger drove in two with a base hit. Tone and Harrison added a hit as well.
