Mendon softball surpasses 20-win mark already

STURGIS — The Mendon softball team has eclipsed the 20-win mark for the season - already.

A current nine-game win streak has pushed the Hornet's season record to 22-1 on the year. Coopersville is the only team to have beaten Mendon, the No. 3 team in Division 4, so far this season. Mendon picked up a pair of wins the past few days, winning at Sturgis and Bellevue.

The game at Sturgis took place on Wednesday, an 18-4 Mendon victory. The Hornets scored runs in every inning in the game, including five in the third and fifth innings, respectively. Sturgis scored all four of its runs in the fifth inning.

Cienna Nightingale, Kaidee Gonser and Jadyn Samson each had three hits. Collectively, they drove in seven runs. Rowan Allen finished with two hits and two RBIs, Brielle Bailey drove in two with a hit and Ally Butler recorded a hit as well.

Samson tossed all five innings, she struck out four.

Sturgis got a two-run double from Haylee Pappas in the fifth inning. Leah Yunker had a run-scoring hit as well while Gracie Pagels and Hannah Stileau each added a hit.

Mendon then turned around and clobbered Bellevue 17-0 on Thursday.

Samson drove in five runs with three hits in the game while Allen, Gonser, Bailey, Butler and Abby Butler each had two hits. Collectively, they drove in nine additional runs.

Nightingale added an RBI double. Allen picked up the win with nine strikeouts and no hits allowed in three innings of work.

Bronson beats Schoolcraft

The Bronson softball team beat Schoolcraft 5-2 on Thursday evening.

"It was nice to see the girls work to find a way to win tonight," Bronson coach Becky Gray said.

Ashlynn Harris picked up the win for the Vikings. She struck out nine and scattered five hits.

Brealyn Lasky and Roni Bir each collected two hits in the game. Lasky drove in one.

Ciara Blankenship and Mya Webb each added a base hit and an RBI. Harris, Lydia Wells and Braelynn Gimenez all had a base hit in the game as well.

White Pigeon beats Bloomingdale

The White Pigeon softball team beat Bloomingdale on Thursday, 16-15.

Both Emily Miller and Leigha Shudell clubbed homers in the game. They combined for four doubles, three singles and seven total RBIs. Emily Barton had two doubles and a single and Cali Raley hit a double with two singles. Rachel Byler connected for three singles, Layla Abner hit two singles and both Mable Post and Madison Cavasos hit a double.

Post pitched the Chiefs to the win with seven strikeouts.

Burr Oak beats Colon

The Burr Oak softball team claimed a 9-3 victory over Colon on Thursday. The Bobcats led the game 5-0 after five innings before scoring four times in the sixth. Colon plated all three of its runs in the sixth.

Braylyn Hernandez belted a home run for Burr Oak in the game. Brooklynn Root and Makaila Whittington both had three hits in the game as well and drove in three total runs. Inez Ultz and P Hudson both had a run-scoring hit as well while Elaine Holtom added a single.

Root got the win, striking out six.

Reese Williams had an RBI hit for Colon, Peighton Stouder had a hit in the contest as well.

Alyssa Hess struck out six for the Magi in five innings of work.

Centreville beats Cass

The Centreville softball team beat Cassopolis 21-2 on Thursday.

Hannah Lennard doubled twice, singled twice and drove in five runs in the first game. Drew Alexander added two hits and three RBIs. Nikki Lennard and August Blair both had run-scoring hits as well.

Hannah Lennard struck out four in three innings.
