Memphis Grizzlies signing guard Zavier Simpson to 10-day contract

The Memphis Grizzlies aren't done adding new players to their roster.

Memphis is signing Zavier Simpson to a 10-day contract, the team announced Saturday morning. It also is planning to bring back Maozinha Pereira on a second 10-day contract.

The Grizzlies (24-49) have used injury hardship exceptions most of the season to sign players to 10-day contracts in order to fill out their roster. According to the NBA's collective bargaining agreement, teams can apply for injury hardship exceptions when at least four players are out multiple weeks due to injuries. Memphis is currently without Ja Morant, Marcus Smart, Ziaire Williams and Derrick Rose.

Simpson, a 6-foot guard out of Michigan, has spent parts of the past four seasons in the NBA G League. He played this season with the Motor City Cruise, where he's averaged 19.5 points and 8.3 assists in 32 starts.

Pereira has played in four games with the Grizzlies since signing his initial 10-day contract. The 6-8 forward has shot 45.5% from the field and showcased high-level athleticism with his leaping ability.

A franchise-record 30 players have been in games for the Grizzlies this season. Simpson would move that total to 31 when he plays.

Memphis is back in action Saturday night in a road game against the Orlando Magic.
