Meet The Courier Journal's 2023 All-Metro preseason football team offense
Here is The Courier Journal’s preseason All-Metro football team offense, as selected by Jason Frakes.
Players from the following counties were eligible: Bullitt, Jefferson, Oldham, Shelby and Spencer. Players were chosen based on past performances, recruiting interest and potential for posting big numbers during the 2023 season.
All statistics are from the 2022 season.
Cole Hodge
School: Christian Academy
Position: Quarterback
Height/weight: 6-2/190
Year: Senior
What to know: The East Carolina commit completed 169 of 232 passes (72.8%) for 2,949 yards and 48 touchdowns with just four interceptions as CAL won the Class 3A state championship. He also rushed for 711 yards and nine touchdowns and earned honorable-mention All-State honors from The Courier Journal. He also was named Class 3A, District Four Player of the Year.
Cortez Stone
School: Central
Position: Running back
Height/weight: 5-11/175
Year: Junior
What to know: Stone earned first-team All-State honors after carrying 271 times for 2,191 yards (8 yards per carry) and 26 touchdowns. Also had 10 receptions for 177 yards and a touchdown and was named Class 4A, District Four Player of the Year. Through two seasons he has rushed for 3,568 yards and 47 TDs. Has offers from Ball State, Cincinnati, Eastern Kentucky, Louisville, Miami (Ohio) and Western Kentucky.
Zeek Washburn
School: Manual
Position: Running back
Height/weight: 5-11/176
Year: Senior
What to know: Washburn rushed for 1,388 yards (6.9 yards per carry) and 20 touchdowns on 199 carries while leading the Crimsons to a 9-3 record and earning third-team All-State honors. He was named Class 6A, District Three Player of the Year and has an offer from Eastern Kentucky.
Trey Cotton
School: Christian Academy
Position: Wide receiver
Height/weight: 6-1/180
Year: Junior
What to know: Cotton had a team-high 51 catches for 967 yards and 12 touchdowns while leading the Centurions to the Class 3A state championship and earning all-district honors. He also posted 35 tackles (17 solo) and four interceptions as a key member of CAL’s secondary. Cotton has an offer from Eastern Kentucky.
Max Gainey
School: Male
Position: Wide receiver
Height/weight: 5-11/160
Year: Senior
What to know: A broken collarbone limited Gainey to just seven games last season, but he still had a team-high 37 catches for 445 yards and five touchdowns on his way to third-team All-State honors. He’s also a standout basketball player, averaging 5.5 points per game for a Male team that won the Seventh Region title last season.
Marlon Harbin
School: St. Xavier
Position: Wide receiver
Height/weight: 5-11/175
Year: Sophomore
What to know: Harbin had a solid freshman season, catching 24 passes for 360 yards and three touchdowns on his way to all-district honors. He already has offers from Kentucky, Louisville, North Alabama and Tennessee-Martin.
Carter Guillaume
School: St. Xavier
Position: Offensive line
Height/weight: 6-2/275
Year: Senior
What to know: Guillaume earned second-team All-State honors last season while helping St. X go 10-2. Also a state champion wrestler in the 285-pound weight class, Guillaume has committed to play football at Southeast Missouri State.
David Pellman
School: Manual
Position: Offensive line
Height/weight: 6-3/285
Year: Sophomore
What to know: One of the state’s top prospects in the Class of 2026, Pellman already has offers from Florida, Kentucky, Louisville and Ole Miss.
Logan Russell
School: Ballard
Position: Offensive line
Height/weight: 6-4/250
Year: Junior
What to know: Russell was an all-district selection last year after helping the Bruins go 11-3 and reach the Class 6A semifinals. He has an offer from Eastern Kentucky.
Isaac Sowells
School: Male
Position: Offensive line
Height/weight: 6-2/292
Year: Junior
What to know: Sowells helped the Bulldogs go 10-5 and reach the Class 6A state final last year, and a big summer on the camp circuit produced offers from Bethune-Cookman, Eastern Kentucky, Indiana State, James Madison, Kentucky, Louisville, South Carolina, Toledo and Wake Forest.
Ben Stotts
School: Christian Academy
Position: Offensive line
Height/weight: 6-5/302
Year: Junior
What to know: Stotts helped the Centurions go 15-0 and win the Class 3A championship while leading the state in scoring at 48.5 points per game. He has offers from Eastern Kentucky and North Alabama.
Logan Zoeller
School: St. Xavier
Position: Kicker
Height/weight: 5-8/150
Year: Junior
What to know: Made 8 of 9 field-goal attempts and all 45 of his PAT kicks on his way to a team-high 69 points for the Tigers. Earned all-district honors and has a 4.5-star rating from Kohl’s Kicking.
Jeremiah Lynn
School: Trinity
Position: Kickoff return
Height/weight: 5-11/190
Year: Junior
What to know: Versatile player returned three kicks (two punts, one kickoff) for touchdowns. He was Trinity’s top receiver with 27 catches for 486 yards and three touchdowns, earning all-district honors. Also saw time at running back, rushing for 367 yards and five scores.
