Meet the All-Anderson/Pickens high school boys and girls track and field teams for 2023

Track and field competitors from Anderson and Pickens counties won 10 events at the 2023 SCHSL high school state championship and had strong performances across the board.

Wren senior Tavon West is the Anderson Independent Mail high school track and field boys athlete of the year. He won a state championship in the 110 hurdles, qualified for state in the 2-mile run and his long jump was the second-best performance in the area.

Westside sophomore Ayanna Hunt is the girls athlete of the year. She won a state championship in discus, finished second in shot and seventh in javelin.

Boys

Running events

Amiri Acker

Crescent | Fr.

Event: 400-meter run

Why chosen: Acker, not even yet in high school, posted the best time among all runners from Anderson and Pickens counties at 51.64, good enough for seventh at the Class AAA state meet. Acker also finished seventh in the 200.

Hayes Binnicker

Powdersville | Sophomore

Event: 400 hurdles

Why chosen: Binnicker finished second at the AAA state meet by .02 seconds with a time of 56.15. Binnicker also finished third in the 110 hurdles.

Issac Esuary

Liberty | Junior

Event: 3,200

Why chosen: Esuary won bronze at the AA state meet with a time of 9:51.75 He improved his fourth-place effort at Upper State by 15 seconds to claim the area’s best time by 0.28 seconds.

Ben Jaminet

Powdersville | Senior

Event: 800

Why chosen: Jaminet won the AAA championship with a time of 1:58.60. He was edged by teammate Noah Stump for second at the Upper State meet but shaved more than a second at state.

Noah Stump

Powdersville | Senior

Event: 1,600

Why chosen: Stump finished second in AAA with a time of 4:22.87. At Upper State, he was second in the 1,600 and the 800.

C.J. Willingham

Wren | Sophomore

Events: 100, 200

Why chosen: Willingham finished sixth at the AAA meet in the 100 with a time of 10.87 and fifth in the 200 in 21.83.

Field events

William Epps

T.L. Hanna | Junior

Event: long jump

Why chosen: Epps had the best jump in the two counties at 21 feet, 2 inches, qualifying for the AAAAA meet with a 21-01 at Upper State.

Rykevieus Flemming

Crescent | Junior

Event: triple jump

Why chosen: Flemming won the AAA Upper State championship at 45-8.25 and then finished second at state with a jump of 44-04. The Upper State jump would have won state by nearly a foot.

Myquan Geer

Daniel | Senior

Event: shot put

Why chosen: Geer finished third at theAAA meet with a 49-03 and fourth at Upper State with an even better 49-10.

Ryan Lee

Belton-Honea Path | Sophomore

Event: pole vault

Why chosen: Lee won the AAA championship with a vault of 15-2, more than a foot better than his second-place finish at Upper State.

Braden Shoemaker

Wren | Senior

Event: javelin

Why chosen: Shoemaker won bronze at the AAA meet with a throw of 156-04. He was second in the high jump.

Abijah Webb

Pendleton | Sophomore

Event: high jump

Why chosen: Webb won the AAA state and Upper State championships with jumps of 6-6.

Powdersville | Sophomore

Event: 100, 200

Why chosen: Davis won the 100 at the AAA state meet with a time of 12.03, improving on her Upper State time of 12.27. She finished second in the 200.

Aisha Edmond

Belton-Honea Path | Junior

Event: 800

Why chosen: Edmond finished second at the AAA state championship with a time of 2:25.25. She also finished second at Upper State.

Molly Page Morris

Powdersville | Junior

Event: 110 hurdles

Why chosen: Morris is the AAA state champion at 15.20. She won the Upper State with 15.05.

Amani Rambert

Powdersville | 8th grade

Event: 400 hurdles

Why chosen: Rambert finished second at the AAA state meet with a time of 1:05.15 and won the Upper State at 1:06.79.

Caroline Timms

T.L. Hanna | Junior

Event: 1,600

Why chosen: Timms finished fifth at the AAAAA state championship with a time of 5:06.94, more than 18 seconds ahead of second best in the area.

Ashby Williams

Daniel | Sophomore

Event: 3,200

Why chosen: Williams finished second at the AAA state championships with a time of 11:36.72. She won the Upper State and improved by more than 20 seconds.

Tymia Willis

Pendleton | Senior

Event: 400

Why chosen: Willis finished third at state in AAA with 1:01.04 and fourth at Upper State.

Kinsley Allen

Palmetto | Senior

Event: high jump, triple jump

Why chosen: Allen won the AAA high jump championship with at 5-6. She was second in the triple jump with a distance of 36-4.

Jordja Fox

Easley | Senior

Event: pole vault

Why chosen: Fox had the aea's best vault by a full foot at 9-6. She placed seventh at the AAAA meet.

Ayanna Hunt

Westside | Sophomore

Event: discus, shot

Why chosen: Hunt won the AAAA state championship in the discus (144-01) and finished second in shot (39-04). Hunt also finished seventh in the javelin.

Kenlee Richardson

Daniel | 9th grade

Event: long jump

Why chosen: Richardson was fourth at the AAA state meet with a leap of 16-8.75. That would’ve been good enough to win the Upper State, where she finished third.

Anna Kate Siler

Pendleton | Junior

Event: javelin

Why chosen: Siler finished third at the AAA state meet at 113-03 after finishing seventh at Upper State at 98-9.
