Meet the 2023 All-Greater Rochester Girls Alpine Team
The All-Greater Rochester Girls Alpine Team was selected by coaches with input from Democrat and Chronicle and Daily Messenger Post sportswriters.
Rose Heagney
Skier of the Year
Year: Junior
Parents: Jamie and Max Heagney
Key accomplishment: Won overall combined champion for Section V women’s alpine skiing.
Future plans: My future plan is to cherish my last year on the Canandaigua ski team and I have verbally committed to play Division I lacrosse at Niagara University and pursue a career in nursing.
Why she is Skier of the Year: Heagney had some momentum heading into the state alpine championships as a Section V champ in the giant slalom. But states didn’t unfold as planned with a pair of falls that knocked her out of contention.
Still, one event does not a season define and over the course of an entire Section V alpine season, the Canandaigua Academy junior was the most consistent finisher among a group of skiers with plenty of skill. And with one more season to come as a senior, expectations as a skier and leader are high.
