The 2023 All-Greater Rochester Girls Golf Team is revealed

Here is the 2023 All-Greater Rochester Girls Golf Team as determined by a vote of Section V coaches with input from the Democrat and Chronicle staff.

Golfer of the Year

Year: Senior

Parents: Jen and Gerry Cellura

Key accomplishments: I helped my team win our fifth sectional title and I also won sectionals individually shooting 5-over-par.

Future plans: I will be playing Division I golf at the College of Holy Cross next year.

Why she is the Golfer of the Year: Completed her run with the Mercy team that began as a seventh-grader with a first-place finish during the Section V Championships at Penfield Country Club and Ravenwood Golf Club. Cellura's 2.2 strokes average score over par in nine-hole matches during the season was second among golfers in Section V.

"Sophia has always striven to excel at everything she does," Mercy coach Julia Odenbach said. "She said she wanted to be on the state team and by eighth grade (her second season) she was.

"Sophia is also sweet as she is good, always supportive of other players on our team or the other teams. She was an easy choice to be a captain this past year and she will be a wonderful leader for our team at states (in the spring)."

Year: Sophomore

Parents: Paige and Joel Dittman

Key accomplishment: I won the Tournament of Champions at Monroe Country Club for the third year in a row.

Future plans: I hope to attend college somewhere warm and play Division I golf.

Year: Senior

Parents: Wendy and Mike Devine

Key accomplishments: Low score of 38 (+4) at Eagle Vale (away match); low score of 40 (+4) at Mendon (home match).

Future plans: Planning to study computer science at college next year next year.

Year: Senior

Parents: Kimberly and Tyler Eichas

Key accomplishment: Private/Parochial/Finger Lakes champion.

Future plans: St. John Fisher University.

Year: Senior

Parents: Cheryl and Glenn Ferguson

Key accomplishment: Shot 4-under-par for nine holes at Eagle Vale in a high school match.

Future plans: To play collegiate golf next year.

Year: Sophomore

Parents: Jessica and Brandon Fox

Key accomplishment: Shot a 92 in the second round of sectionals.

Future plans: I don’t have a full plan yet, but I’m going to look more this year.

Year: Junior

Parents: Lisa and Marcus Hartel

Key accomplishment: Shooting 2-over-par.

Future plans: I plan to play softball in college and pursue a degree in dentistry.

Year: Sophomore

Parents: Julie and Mark Jodoin

Key accomplishment: Making the states team.

Future plans: Play collegiate golf.

Year: Freshman

Parent: Haiyan Jin

Key accomplishment: A nine-hole score of 37 in a match.

Future plans: University of Washington is the college I want to attend. I want to join the college golf team. And I want to major in forensic medicine.

Year: Junior

Parents: Beth and Michael Prince

Key accomplishment: Although there were many memorable moments that came from this season, the one I am most proud of is when I made it onto the states team. It had been a goal of mine ever since sectionals last year, and felt so good to accomplish it after all the work I put in.

Future plans: I plan to attend college and would like to play golf while attending college.

Year: Junior

Parents: Liz and Mike Sweazy

Key accomplishments: Third year in a row heading to states with the team.

Future plans: In the future, I plan to attend college locally in state to continue playing golf.

Year: Freshman

Parents: Carrie and Todd Zigrossi

Key accomplishments: Medalist in multiple matches.

Future plans: I would like to go to college and play collegiate golf and study music.

Coach of the Year

Profession: Social studies teacher, varsity girls golf coach, junior varsity boys golf coach, National Junior Honor Society co-advisor in Rush-Henrietta Central School District.

Varsity coaching experience: Girls golf at Rush-Henrietta (2020-2023). Started the R-H girls golf Program in 2020.

Family: Pete Loftus (husband), Andrew Loftus (son) and Libby Loftus (daughter).
