Medicine Hole Run helps round-out cross country season

Oct. 20—KILLDEER, N.D. — The Killdeer Medicine Hole Golf Course on Oct. 17 played host to the annual cross-country run, with a 3,000-meter layout instead of the typical 5K, and area runners turned in some outstanding times as a warmup for the North Dakota State Meet that will be hosted at Parkhurst Recreation Area on Oct. 27 in Jamestown.

The girls team from Bowman County again had a dominant performance, winning the meet with 36 points, while hosts Killdeer finished second, Dickinson High earned third and Trinity came in at number-six.

Killdeer's Addie Miller took second in the event, with an 11:57.06 and teammate Abby Hardersen came in third with a 12:13.03. Bowman County took the next three places, with Landyn Gerbig's 12:14.50, Anna Sarsland's 12:16.72 and Jaci Fischer running across the line in 12:17.59, and BCHS's Jordyn Honeyman came in with a 10th-place 12:38.46, while teammate Julie Sarsland earned an 11th-place 12:46.41. Dickinson Trinity's Celine Lefor has shown dramatic improvement this season — the first in cross-country for THS in school history — and earned a 12th-place 12:57.34, while Dickinson High School's Evalyn Kenitzer took 13th with a 12:59.24. From there, Jaylee Fischer, Teagan Homelvig and Kenley Bowman brought home 14th-16th places for the Bulldogs, respectively, and Taylee Andersen took 17th for Killdeer. Rounding out the top-20, Adyson Gerbig took 19th for Bowman County and Killdeer's Hailey Klym took 20th, while Joelie Bartow was the top performer for Richardton-Taylor at 21st-place and Serra Buerkle took 32nd as the top performer for Heart River. Ahava Kerr was 44th for Beach as the Buccaneers' top-runner.

For the boys' side, Bowman County's team is borderline-unstoppable and took first with 22 points, while hosts Killdeer were second and Dickinson Trinity ended up in sixth-place for the meet.

Taylor Wanner again turned in the fastest time of the day with a 9:19.28 and his teammate Jonah Njos earned a second-place 9:46.62, while Killdeer's Jekori Dahlen represented the Cowboys well with a 9:49.68 that was good enough for third-place.
