SOUTH BERWICK, Maine – Charlie Hudson gave up three runs in the first inning, but the Marshwood High School sophomore right-hander settled in and pitched five strong innings as the Marshwood High School baseball team beat Gorham, 6-4 on Thursday in a Class A South win.

Hudson scattered eight hits, striking out three and allowing just one earned run in his final four innings of work.

I was very proud of Charlie,” Marshwood head coach Eric Wells said. “After giving up three, he settled down and found the zone and kept the ball down to give us five strong innings. It’s tough for a young guy to bounce back like he did, but he really toughened up today and was fantastic.”

The Hawks bounced back with two runs in their first at-bat, and added a single run in the third and three in the fifth.

“Two-out hitting has been talked about all year; don’t quit on innings,” Wells said. “We scored most of our runs because guys stuck to their plan and trusted themselves. This will be a win that goes a long way at the end of the year.”

Alex Husssey had two hits for Marshwood (2-0), while Ben Garrepy and Ronan Garrett both had one hit and two RBIs. Riley Parnham (hit, RBI), Liam Tiernan (hit), Noah Fitzgerald (hit, run), Ty Hussey (hit, run) and Henry Dimmerling (run) all contributed to the offense.

Garrett threw two hitless innings in relief, striking out one.
