Marcus Stroman looks ready for the regular season as Yankees defeat Pirates, 1-0

The Yankees got some stellar pitching performances in a 1-0 spring training win over the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Four things to know from Sunday’s game

1. Marcus Stroman looked strong in his final outing of the spring. He recorded a three-pitch second inning, going pop-up, grounder, grounder, and the rest of his outing was just as smooth.

Stroman went six scoreless innings, allowing just four hits while striking out five and walking two. In his final start before the regular season, Stroman looked to be in mid-season form.

2. With the Yankees also playing in Mexico City later in the afternoon, this split-squad lineup didn’t feature many regulars. Austin Wells did DH and hit third, and he went 0-for-3 with a walk a strikeout.

Still, it's been a good spring for Wells, who owns a .939 OPS.

3. It wasn't a big day for either offense, but the Yankees took the lead in the top of the fourth thanks to Jahmai Jones, who crushed a double off the wall in left off of Pirates All-Star closer David Bednar.

Jones went 1-for-3 with a walk, a strikeout, and that RBI double.

4. Following Stroman, right-handed reliever Nick Burdi had another really strong showing, going 1.1 scoreless innings with a strikeout and a walk.

In seven appearances this spring, Burdi, who is fighting for a bullpen spot, has gone 7.1 innings, allowing just two earned runs.
