Marc Stein: Brooklyn Nets ‘quietly’ considered hiring Quin Snyder after firing Steve Nash
The Brooklyn Nets considered hiring Quin Snyder after they fired Steve Nash and changed their mind on pursuing Ime Udoka, according to NBA insider Marc Stein. Nash was fired on Nov. 1 after a 2-5 start to the season following a dramatic offseason in which then Nets Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving wanted out of Brooklyn.
Once Nash was fired, the Nets began looking for replacements and according to multiple reports at the time, Ime Udoka was the frontrunner for the job. However, Brooklyn changed their mind after the backlash was getting because of Udoka’s reason for being available to hire in the first place. Udoka was suspended by the Boston Celtics for having a relationship with someone within the Celtics’ organization, which violates team rules.
After the Nets pivoted from Udoka, it decided to make Jacque Vaughn the permanent head coach on Nov. 9. Vaughn has had success with Brooklyn despite all of the turmoil that has happened this season culminating with the trades of Durant and Irving. On Feb. 21, Brooklyn offered Vaughn a multi-year contract extension as a reward for his performance. It is still interesting to know that the Nets could’ve had Quin Snyder in the same spot.
