Manchester marathon set for Sunday

Nov. 8—It's marathon time in Manchester.

More than 2,000 runners from as many as 46 states are expected to descend on the Queen City to run Sunday's 17th annual CMC Manchester City Marathon. The event is actually a series of races, including the marathon (26.2 miles), half marathon (13.1 miles), relay and 5k (3.1 miles).

The marathon is a qualifier for the Boston Marathon.

Event organizer Millennium Running, with the City of Manchester and the Manchester Police Department, is issuing an advisory for road closures and delays. Race day headquarters and the common start/finish line for all distances is located on Elm Street in front of Veterans Park downtown.

The marathon, half marathon and leg 1 of the relay are set to start at 8:50 a.m., while the 5k will start at 9:05.

Alton's Andrew Tuttle won last year's marathon in 1:58.18. The women's winner was Georgia Bromberg of Leeds, Alabama in 2:21.42.

The 26.2 mile course will run through neighborhoods including downtown, the North End, Derryfield Park, Rimmon Heights, Piscataquog River Rail Trail and the Goffstown Rail Trail. Among the course's highlights is a loop inside Delta Dental Stadium, home of the New Hampshire Fisher Cats baseball team.

A full list of streets affected, and impact times, are available online at https://www.millenniumrunning.com/racenotice-mcm/39984.

Veterans Count is again the official charity of the event.
