Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola brushes off Jurgen Klopp's compliments

Pep Guardiola has dismissed Jürgen Klopp’s claim that Manchester City do not have any weaknesses, insisting that every team has its weak points.

Klopp’s Liverpool sit one point above City at the top of the Premier League table and could increase that lead against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Friday night.

As the domestic season reaches its halfway point, a genuine title race appears on the cards between Liverpool and defending champions City.

Klopp still makes City favourites after their 100-point title-winning campaign last year, and the Liverpool manager has claimed there is “no sign of weakness” in Guardiola’s side.

Guardiola, however, believes there is much that City can still improve on and claimed Klopp’s comments had to be put into “perspective”.

When asked whether he believed his side had any weaknesses, Guardiola said: “Of course. Any team has strong points and weak points.

“Of course we have weaknesses, we are working on it. Of course we have, but that’s normal. These kind of comments have to be put in perspective.”

Klopp said earlier this week that City still “play like champions” and that Liverpool had to “respect” that fact.

“I can’t say that City are lucky here and lucky there. They aren’t,” he said. “Every matchday, they are spot on.

“They were last year, when they got 100 points, and they stay in that mode. Chapeau. I have to say it.

“There’s no sign of weakness. You watch a game… OK, against Everton, in the first 15 minutes maybe, but it was 12.30pm after a Champions League game, so it was an extended warm-up and there were balls flying around and missed passes.

“But after that, they took charge of the game and won it comfortably. Thank you very much. Next one. That’s why I say it. They are the current champions. And they still play like champions. We are all the challengers.

“I only said it because that’s why we should concentrate on every game and not take any result for granted. We are all judged on that because they are the champions, they can do it, so it should be possible for us as well.”
