Man, 19, killed on Queens train, may have been subway surfing

A 19-year-old man was killed, possibly while subway surfing, in Queens, police said Wednesday.

The victim was found unconscious when the Manhattan-bound E train he was riding on pulled into the Sutphin Blvd.-Archer Ave. station about 9 p.m. Tuesday. He suffered a massive head injury.

Medics rushed him to Jamaica Medical Center, where he died. His name was not immediately released.

An MTA spokesperson confirmed that the man had been riding outside the train when the incident occurred, but said it wasn’t clear if he was on top of the car.

Investigators are trying to determine if he was trying to train surf or if he hit his head while walking between cars as the train was moving.

The city in September announced a public safety awareness campaign created by students designed to highlight the perils of subway surfing.

At the time, five New Yorkers had already died subway surfing this year, all of them teenagers.
