Magic rookie Caleb Houstan puts up 15 points on G League assignment

Orlando Magic rookie Caleb Houstan put up another double-digit-scoring effort Saturday on assignment in the G League to help lead the Lakeland Magic to a win over the Maine Celtics.

Houstan produced 15 points, five rebounds, one assist and one steal in the 117-111 win on the road. He went 4-of-11 from the field and 5-of-5 from the free-throw line in 23 minutes of action off the bench in his third game with Lakeland.

The 32nd pick turned in another strong outing with Lakeland, though struggled a bit to shoot. The team is more concerned with getting Houstan some consistent playing time, though, and continuing the transition to the next level.

Houstan is averaging 17.7 points, 5.7 rebounds and 1.7 assists on 44.1% shooting from the field with Lakeland. He produced 24 points, nine rebounds, two assists, one steal and one block in his debut on Tuesday, and followed it up with 14 points on Thursday.

The team is hopeful that playing time for Houstan with Lakeland can help him continue to adjust to different coverages and learn where to be on the floor on both ends of the court. He has drawn praise for handling the assignment with professionalism.

Houstan is taking the assignment in stride and is willing to work through it in order to improve on the court. He has produced in some spot minutes throughout the season, and will be ready for when the next time his name is called.

Lakeland returns to action on Monday again in Maine.
