Who made the College Football Playoff? Top four teams of CFP top 25 selection show rankings

Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh celebrates 26-0 win over Iowa at the Big Ten championship game at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Ind. on Saturday, Dec. 2, 2023.

What was a foregone conclusion the moment Michigan beat Ohio State 30-24 in Rivalry Week came to pass on Sunday.

Jim Harbaugh and the Wolverines (13-0, 8-0 in Big Ten play) followed up a 30-24 win over the Buckeyes with a 26-0 shutout of Iowa in the Big Ten championship game on Saturday. Coupled with previously top-ranked Georgia's loss in the 2023 SEC championship game to Alabama, the Wolverines were a virtual lock for the No. 1 overall spot in the 2023 CFP rankings.

  • No. 5: Florida State (13-0)

  • No. 6: Georgia (12-1)

Florida State is the first and only undefeated Power Five champion to miss the four-team playoff era. Committee chair Boo Coorigan cited Jordan Travis' injury as the reason for the Seminoles dropping a spot, even after the team's 16-6 win over Louisville in the ACC championship game.

Due to bowl contracts, FSU will play in the Orange Bowl vs. the highest-ranked team among the SEC, Big Ten and Notre Dame. That will be Georgia, which fell five spots after its defeat on Saturday to Alabama.
