Mac Jones praises Bill O’Brien’s early impact on offense

New England Patriots quarterback Mac Jones seems to have a positive early impression of offensive coordinator Bill O’Brien, with the team currently in the middle of OTAs.

O’Brien was brought in from Alabama in January to help the Patriots revamp the offense. Jones has familiarity with the Alabama offense, having been a part of it for three seasons. O’Brien was with Alabama from 2021-2022. So there was only a little overlap between Jones and O’Brien ahead of the 2021 NFL draft.

New England will be looking to establish more consistency on offense after a disastrous 2022 campaign. So far, it seems like O’Brien is leading the charge offensively and is getting more cohesiveness out of the unit.

“Everything [O’Brien has] done so far has been really good. Communication is the most important part and trust. I think it all starts with that when you’re with a new coach,” Jones said, after Wednesday’s practice. “He’s done a great job at controlling the room, and I feel like everybody is on the same page. Just got to continue to do it. It’s a marathon and not a sprint. We know that. He’s obviously had great experience in the NFL and at Alabama, where I was at. So there’s a lot of good stuff that we talk about. Just looking forward to working with him.”

This news is certainly encouraging, as the Patriots look to get back on track in 2023.

Having everybody on the same page and playing at a consistent level is something that was missing last year. Righting those wrongs could have the Patriots in a much better position to compete this time out.
