Woody McMillen is returning to the sidelines, and returning to his alma mater.

The veteran football coach will take over the Ludlow High School football program following the departure of Greg Taphouse, who was 35-32 in six seasons with the Panthers.

McMillen, a Ludlow graduate, was head baseball coach at the school for the 2019-20 season.

He started the Walton-Verona football program, guiding the Bearcats through their first few years of JV football and their first varsity football season, 2008. He remained with the Bearcats as an assistant until taking the head coaching job at Bellevue High School in 2015, where he stayed for four seasons.

Ludlow was 4-7 last season and is installing artificial turf at one of Northern Kentucky’s oldest prep stadiums, James Rigney Memorial Stadium. The turf will be colored red to match Ludlow’s primary color.

“I am humbled and honored to assume the role of Head Football Coach at Ludlow High School," McMillen said in a press release. "It is a lifelong dream come true for a son of the program to get the chance to coach at my alma mater and work with the kids of Ludlow. It’s certainly an exciting time for our team and community with the opening of the new field at the legendary James Rigney Memorial Stadium.”
