Lubbock-Cooper's Taylin Silco, Estacado's Honor Treviño among wresters to watch at region
The Region I-5A and Region I-6A wrestling meets begin Friday at West Texas A&M and Haltom City's Thomas Coliseum, respectively.
Here's a look at the top wrestlers from the Lubbock area who will compete this weekend.
Taylin Silco, Lubbock-Cooper
Silco, the state runner-up in 2023, remained undefeated at 32-0 after winning the 138-pound class at district.
Honor Treviño, Estacado
Treviño stayed undefeated by winning the District 4-5A title in the 150-pound weight class. He is 34-0 on the season and will try for a return trip to the state meet.
Noah Zuniga, Frenship
Zungia improved to 33-0 after winning the 120-pound class at the District 2-6A meet.
Avey Mitchell, Lubbock-Cooper
Mitchell, a 2023 state qualifier, improved to 37-1 after winning the 185-pound class at district.
Keagan Davis, Lubbock High
Davis, the reigning region champion, improved to 34-2 by winning the district title in the 215-pound class.
Zoe Bennett, Lubbock-Cooper
Bennett is 40-2 after winning the 126-pound class at district. She reached the state meet last season as a sophomore.
Madison Peña, Lubbock High
Peña will look for another state-meet berth after winning the district title in the 114-pound class to move to 26-2.
Kayla McLearen, Lubbock-Cooper
McLearen will look to return to state after winning the 235-pound class at district. She is 32-7.
Isaac Rodriguez, Lubbock-Cooper Liberty
The freshman became the program's first district champion after winning the 190-pound class, moving to 24-8 on the season.
Jayden Montoya, Lubbock-Cooper
Montoya won the 106-pound class at district to improve to 35-3 on the season.
Amos "A.J." Ramos, Lubbock High
Ramos won the 113-pound class at district to improve to 32-4.
Tylie Ramos, Lubbock-Cooper
The freshman is 33-4 after winning the 107-pound class at district.
Gabriel Ordonez, Lubbock-Cooper
Ordonez is 36-5 on the season after winning the 175-pound class at district.
Karisma Ramos, Lubbock High
Ramos won the 100-pound class at district to improve to 25-5.
Lucas White, Lubbock High
White won the 165-pound class at district to improve to 29-6.
Alyssa Rodriguez, Lubbock-Cooper
Rodriguez won the 132-pound class at district, moving to 34-7 on the season.
Laura Rodriguez, Lubbock-Cooper
Rodriguez is 25-8 after winning the 152-pound class at district.
Kash Orta, Estacado
Orta won the 120-pound class at district to move to 26-12 on the season.
Alexandra Cardona, Monterey
Cardona won the district title in the 145-pound class to improve to 18-10.
