LSU softball vs Stanford final score, highlights: Tigers win behind monster fifth inning, Kelley Lynch grand slam

LSU took a major step forward in its quest for its first College World Series appearance since 2017, run ruling the Stanford Cardinal 11-1 by virtue of an eight-run fifth inning.

The Tigers managed to get to Stanford's star pitcher NiJaree Canady, racking up six runs (five earned) on 10 hits. Canady had given up three runs in the first before settling in, but the Tigers' 3-1 lead ballooned to 11-1 when 13 Tigers came up to bat in the fifth. Sydney Berzon then quickly dispatched the next three Stanford hitters in the bottom of the fifth to complete the five-inning mercy.

A Kelley Lynch grand slam — which plated four of her five RBIs — and a home run from Ali Newland were huge in LSU's victory.

The Tigers will now play Saturday to try to clinch a College World Series berth over the Cardinal, which made it to the WCWS last season. To that end, they will play Stanford at 8 p.m. Saturday night.
